As of 2026-05-15, official advisories tell travelers to avoid all travel to Kuwait because regional military activity could affect security, flights, borders, visas, and local movement.
What Is Being Advised
Avoid all travel to Kuwait unless the trip is unavoidable. Postpone tourist trips. If you are already in Kuwait, monitor official updates, follow local authority instructions, avoid security or military facilities and US-linked locations, and confirm flights, land borders, visa status, and local instructions before assuming any route is usable.
Where exactly this applies
- Several current advisories apply avoid-all-travel advice nationwide.
- Al Jahra is separately flagged for heightened caution because of security risks.
- Jleeb Al Shouyoukh is separately flagged for heightened caution because of crime.
- Border regions designated as military restricted areas should be avoided.

Why Kuwait Is Flagged
Regional escalation is the main driver. Canada says to avoid all travel to Kuwait because of ongoing military activities and warns that the security situation could deteriorate without notice (Global Affairs Canada, updated 2026-05-04). New Zealand says not to travel because of the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East and the risk from military strikes and armed conflict (SafeTravel, updated 2026-03-01).
Germany's 2026-05-14 update warns against all travel and cites regional volatility after USA/Israel-Iran fighting, possible flight restrictions, terrorism risk, and Kuwait's suspension of visa issuance (Auswartiges Amt). Japan kept Kuwait at Level 3 on 2026-05-13, meaning travelers should not travel, and advises people in or near the country to monitor reliable information and take safety measures (Japan MOFA).
The UK advisory gives one specific place-risk pattern: Iran has publicly stated an intention to target locations associated with the United States and Israel, including US-linked organizations, businesses, facilities, and institutions. Stay away from areas around security or military facilities and US-linked locations (FCDO, updated 2026-04-28).
Transport And Exit Risk
Italy's 2026-04-28 Kuwait update concerns flight, border, and transport disruption, including airport disruption and border restrictions. It advises Italian nationals in Kuwait to consider leaving while commercial options remain available (Viaggiare Sicuri).
Use that as a route-planning warning, not a shortcut for choosing air or land travel. Check flights, land borders, visa status, and local instructions close to departure and again before moving inside Kuwait.
Softer Advisories Still Rule Out Tourism
Ireland advises avoiding non-essential travel to Kuwait, with tourists told to avoid non-essential trips unless the journey is essential (Ireland DFA, updated 2026-05-07). Switzerland advises against tourist and non-urgent travel and says to avoid border regions marked as military restricted areas (FDFA, updated 2026-04-22).
Australia lists Kuwait as "Do not travel" on its Smartraveller destinations index, with the destination entry updated on 2026-05-08 (Smartraveller). France has an active Kuwait security update under its current alerts page (France Diplomatie).
Source Notes
The advisory labels differ by government, but the traveler decision is clear as of 2026-05-15: Kuwait is not a normal tourism booking. The strongest current advice is avoid all travel; the softer advisories still tell tourists and non-urgent travelers to stay away.
