Several official advisories for Pakistan still include avoid-all-travel instructions as of 2026-05-15, mostly for border regions, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Pakistan-administered Kashmir; broader guidance ranges from avoid non-essential travel to heightened caution.
What Is Being Advised
Avoid all travel to areas covered by the strictest regional warnings before you book, cross a land border, or build an overland route. Current official advisories name Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Pakistan-administered Kashmir, the Afghanistan border area, parts of the India border area, and other border zones.
Treat the rest of Pakistan as heightened-caution travel at minimum. Some advisories go further and advise avoiding non-essential travel across Pakistan or to specific places such as Karachi. Check airline status before departure: one official advisory updated 2026-05-12 warns of regional tensions, flight disruption risk, and possible fuel-related transport delays.
Where exactly this applies
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is repeatedly named, including Peshawar in the German advisory and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa except Chitral district in New Zealand's advisory.
- Balochistan is repeatedly named, including Quetta in the German advisory.
- Pakistan-administered Kashmir appears in New Zealand and Ireland advisories.
- Border areas are a major warning pattern: Afghanistan border areas, the Line of Control, areas near India, areas near Iran, and some areas near China appear across official notices.
- Canada names the area within 50 km of the Afghanistan border and areas within 10 km of the China, India, and Iran borders, with limited exceptions for official crossings or approach roads such as Khunjerab Pass, the Karakorum Highway, the Kartarpur Corridor, and Wagah, which Canada notes is currently closed.
- Germany warns against land entry or exit to Iran and Afghanistan.
- Canada advises avoiding non-essential travel to Karachi, except specified central and DHA areas where it says to exercise a high degree of caution.

Current Warning Pattern
Six issuing governments have avoid-all-travel or equivalent highest-level restrictions somewhere in Pakistan. The same advisory set also includes avoid-non-essential-travel guidance for broader or different scopes and heightened-caution guidance for other parts of the country.
The recurring risk language is terrorism, kidnapping, militant attacks, sectarian violence, civil unrest, regional violence, and an unpredictable security situation. Germany's 2026-05-14 update names terrorism, kidnappings, militant attacks, and border access restrictions. New Zealand's 2025-04-27 advisory names terrorism, kidnapping, civil unrest, sectarian violence, and an unpredictable security situation.
Border guidance is specific enough to affect route planning. The UK advises against all travel within 10 miles of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Canada advises against all travel within 50 km of the Afghanistan border and within 10 km of the China, India, and Iran borders, with named exceptions. Germany warns against land entry or exit to Iran and Afghanistan.
Softer Advice Still Changes Plans
Canada advises avoiding non-essential travel to Karachi because of crime and terrorism, while carving out specified areas including the District of Karachi, Clifton, and several DHA phases where it advises a high degree of caution.
Australia's Smartraveller entry, updated 2026-04-07, lists Pakistan at its avoid-non-essential-travel equivalent. Ireland rates Pakistan as high caution overall, with avoid-all-travel advice for Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Balochistan, most of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and named areas including some UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Italy's Viaggiare Sicuri entries, dated 2025-09-18 in this packet, flag Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for kidnapping-related caution, Gilgit-Baltistan for security risks, and a broader area of particular caution tied to terrorism.
Disruption And Timing
The UK advisory updated 2026-05-12 says regional tensions have created security and economic risks and may lead to travel disruption. It tells travelers to check with airlines before travel and warns that global supply routes could affect Pakistan's fuel availability and pricing, which may cause transport delays in some areas.
France has active latest-minute notices for Pakistan covering security conditions, air-link disruption, a vigilance call, and air pollution. The packet does not include the full French excerpts, so check the live France Diplomatie page if you use French guidance or have a near-term flight.
Before You Book
If your route touches Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan-administered Kashmir, the Afghanistan border, the Line of Control, or land crossings with Iran or Afghanistan, avoid or reroute that segment unless your trip has a duty-of-care setup built for official-risk travel.
For Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, or another major-city itinerary, check the live advisory from your passport country, then check airline and local security updates. The current official inputs support heightened caution across Pakistan and stricter treatment for named areas; they do not rank every route, city, or transport mode at the same risk level.
If you are already in Pakistan, monitor official notices and local instructions daily. The advisories in this packet were checked on 2026-05-14, and several had updates between 2026-05-12 and 2026-05-14.

New Zealand's advisory is dated 2025-04-27 and combines avoid-non-essential-travel advice for Pakistan with do-not-travel advice for Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa except Chitral district, and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
