Son of a Beach Hostel

Beware of the Bed bugs. Found some in the basement rooms and notified the staff, they were very apologetic and we were able to switch rooms. This has clearly been an issue for them before. The whole hostel needs to be cleaned before they should let anymore people stay there. Besides that, it was a clean and small hostel in a great location very close to the beach. Ok bathrooms and a small but tidy kitchen.

They only accept cash bonds. The dorm rooms do not have locks but do have lockers for use. I had a bed bug in my room and ants everywhere. The staff member I spoke to about the bed bug was incredibly unresponsive at the start. I had asked to change my sheets, given it was about 1:30 in the morning and I could not change accommodation. They told me that cleaning would not be in until 11 am and could not help me until then. I asked just to be given sheets that I could put on myself, to which the staff member responded that they didn't have time to deal with my issue. They found another bed in the hostel, which I was grateful for. It was not until checkout when I confirmed that I would not be charged for both rooms, that they apologised for the inconvenience.

I checked in October 16, 2022 and upon noticing many long hairs on my bed I decided to inspect in further. I immediately found a bed bug. The bug crawled into the mattress quickly before I could show anyone, but there were many of the trade-mark spots left in the crevices of the mattress indicating the presence of bed bugs. I decided to leave immediately and they were kind and didn’t have an issue with me leaving. They said they would issue a refund but it has been many many months and I have not received a refund. Attached is a photo of the hairs on my bedspread before I found the bug.

Um, I kind of have mixed feelings about this place. Although the customer service the location, overall cleanliness was good - I still ended up with bed bugs. I spent three nights here in early July, and after the second night, I noticed I had bed bug bites all over my body. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, he easily dismissed it and said "we never have that problem here." He offered to change the sheets, but did not fix the issue immediately. This made me feel invalidated and kind of ruined my opinion of the place. I know that's quite a substantial claim to make but at least be open to what a customer is saying. I would still recommend staying here, but make sure your bed is clean beforehand.
