Schoendorf Hostel - Virtual Reception

Bed bugs, large blood stain on the bed curtain, blood stains at the end of the bed on the inside of the bunk. Dust inches thick in the room and in the bathroom. Shower holder broken. A hairdryer that blows cold hair and should be thrown away. A non-existent host who is either "fishing or on a flight" Code system didn't work for 24 hours and I had to bother the girl in the Café who was busy doing her own work to allow me access to the building on several occasions. The hostel has potential and it's a shame to see it in such a state of disrepair. A deep clean, new cleaning staff and some interest from the host and this hostel could be a 10. I wouldn't repeat my stay and I was very happy to leave covered in bed bug bites.

I stayed in the 8-bed female dormitory at Schöndorf Hostel, right on Obchodná ulica – my favorite part of the city for its central location and energy. Despite the shared space, the bed was comfortable, and privacy curtains gave it a personal feel. The other girls were quiet, respectful, and it felt safe throughout my stay – absolutely no bed bugs, very clean, and with secure lockers for personal items. The kitchen was perfectly equipped, clean and cozy, and there's even a small terrace for a breath of fresh air. Laundry facilities were available and functional, which came in handy. There’s also a cute coffee shop downstairs, and I loved that each bed had chargers for laptops and phones – very thoughtful detail. The place reminded me a lot of my Camino experience in Portugal and Spain – simple, social, yet peaceful. A few downsides: in the summer it gets very hot, and I struggled to breathe properly through the night – it could use better ventilation or air conditioning. Also, there was noticeable noise from the trams outside, so light sleepers might want earplugs. The bathrooms were great, and you can even use the ones upstairs for more privacy. Check-out was easy and fast, with no hassle.
