   This place has bedbugs! I’m not one to leave bad reviews but I found one crawling in my bed the first night and asked for a refund so I can stay somewhere else. They said they were unable to do so,but they upgraded me to a private which was nice however, I did not feel confident my room was pest free and even noticed bites on me after I checked out. The bedding is not clean! My stay here really took away from an overall great experience in Budapest. Id advice staying elsewhere

   I was only looking for female dormitory and I reserved A&O hostel Budapest for three nights. I arrived the hostel around 12am and when I entered the room, it was with male! So I asked the receptionist to change my room but he said the room for female is full so he cannot change it. I told the receptionist that even if I have to pay more, I want to stay at double room by myself and change the room tomorrow. But he asked me to pay fully. So I asked him about the payment I made before. But he said I paid to the A&O booking system, so I have to ask for refund to the system. I didn't stay there and I went to other accommodation. But A&O Budapset got tax from me even i didn't stay at their hostel. So if you want a female dorm, I strongly recommend you to go another place. Bc the receptionist told me that they provide a female room when there are enough number of female guests. And if you reserved a female dormitory, check your confirmation letter carefully. I only clicked female dormitory room and reserved it. But on confirmation letter it was just written as 6 bed dormitory. I'm traveling Europe now, but I will never stay at A&O and never recommend to anybody. I emailed A&O for my refund 3 times but they never reply. I hope A&O staff sees my review and answer me back about my refund.

   NOTE: I left a review this summer after my messages were continually ignored by management, and now noticed they had my review deleted as “fake”. For a large chain company we thought they would have better customer service and standards but we were sadly mistaken. We had an extremely disappointing experience at this hotel this summer, and they have continuously been unprofessional and never addressed the issue. I would recommend to avoid it and stay somewhere else. Due to the heatwave we decided to switch here from another hostel specifically because they advertised air conditioning. I had even called ahead of time to confirm they had AC, as we had to pay a cancellation fee as well but thought it would be worth it. However as soon as we arrived at a&o we realized the AC in our room wasn’t working. We immediately went to the desk and they said they’d fix it that afternoon. In our 3 day stay we came back to the front desk multiple times every single day to ask and each time they’d give a different excuse. They had not even a fan to give us and didn’t apologize nor offer to compensate us. We found the staff very rude and dismissive, we tried to be understanding but they obviously did not care to help us or that we wasted our money coming here. The room was very small and horribly hot and stuffy even with the window open which also meant it was super loud from groups of teenagers yelling and playing music in the courtyard all night. This was such a waste of money - false advertising, poor customer service, and an overall unpleasant stay.
