Stadtalm Naturfreundehaus

dorm was basically an attic up tiny wooden spiral stairs, stains on bed and no rail on top bunk so feels like you might fall out, lockers didnt work, felt unsafe as a solo female traveller as the stairs back are long and dark so i always had to make sure to be back by sunset which cut the days short sometimes, glass shower doors shared by all guests, wifi doesnt reach attic dorm room, bugs in room (thankfully not bed bugs), steps up were hard with luggage but after you get your bags up there its not too bad and you start to get used to the stairs - wouldnt recommend to anyone who struggles even a tiny bit with stairs or walking though.

It was generally a good stay with a very nice view. We did however find a bed bug in our bed before going to bed the first night (at about 9 pm). The fact that there was no one to contact or tell forced us to go to bed without being able to do anything. I told one of the staff the next morning about this and he was very helpful and they cleaned the room with high heat and offered a refund. I really liked the place other than the bed bug thing so I wanted to stay since we had no other place to go. I did however message stadtalm both on booking.com and by email about the bed bug issue but didnt get an answer. Even though it was just a single bed bug (there werent any other bed bugs in the room) I still believe that that the first night should be refunded for the huge inconvenience that this caused. The fact that I didnt get an answer from stadtalm makes me very confused and dissapointed. I really did not want to leave a negative review about this since it damages their reputation but since I did not get an answer anywhere I think it is needed. The bed bug might as well have been transported with us from a previous place (we did not find any more on our bags though), but I believe that the main problem is the complete silence from them.

Not only did all my clothes smell like the kitchen itself since the kitchen door is opened at all times letting all the smell go through the whole house, but I also found and killed a massive BED BUG!!! I am covered in itchy bites all over my body after only 2 nights at that disgusting hole! Also I would NOT bring kids with me overnight since the corners of the room were full of black mold. NOT RECOMMENDABLE!!!

Beautiful views and good food, don't you dare to sleep there though, the walls are covered with mould and the mattresses full with bedbugs. I have killed some on spot but not enough as now that I am back home I found out that more and more bites keep appearing all over my body. I just hope I didn't take any with me to my place...

If it were for suspected bed bugs, this would be 5 stars. With the best view in Salzburg, this cozy bed and restaurant is a steal for under 20 euro a night. It is a bit of a hike to get to but the scenery is worth the physical toil.
