Sandbar Beachfront Hostel & Restaurant

The private room was clean and really nice for the price! Rooftop pool and lobby space was really nice to have. Great to be able to relax there throughout the day. Great views too and the staff is really helpful. I do appreciate that they spray bags down with bed bug spray!

First, they spray your luggage when you check in with bed bug spray so you can't touch your luggage after your check in because it's wet with this chemical. When it dries, it leaves a white residue on your luggage. I touched it when I was getting into my bag and forgot it was on there. I then rubbed my eye and then my eye we burning. The staff are not very friendly or helpful. There are only 2 toilets and 3 showers for the whole floor which was not enough. The bathrooms were never cleaned and really gross. There was not any hot water. There was an air conditioner in the dorm that was set at 25 degrees. You couldn't adjust it. I asked if it could be lowered since everyone in my dorm talked about how warm it was but I was told no. The room was very stuffy since the beds are like pods and closed off so no air circulates. The room was also musty with all the wet clothes that never dried out. There were also long term guests in the dorm and they seemed to take it over. It sounded like they lived there for months at a time. One was a 70+ year old woman who had a desk and chair just for her. The room was cluttered with so much stuff because people lived there. Lastly, there was a couple next to my bed so I got to hear their foreplay all night long. They were able to book the bed this way and it was not just two beds booked and they used one. Couples shouldn't be allowed to sleep in the same bed if they are going to kiss, moan, whisper, and make sucking noises all night. They kept hitting the wall next to me when they were moving around getting in different positions. The lobby and roof of the hostel are really nice. The location is good as well. The refrigerators are so gross and crammed with stuff, it looks like they are never cleaned.

At check in they were trying to get me to sign credit card slips that equalled double the amount I should have been charged. When I tried to point out the issue they were very dismissive. I had to be persistent before they realized the error and there was no apology. They require all bags to be sprayed with a bed bug insecticide, but don’t tell you this until after you have checked in (and been charged). This information should be disclosed in the booking materials.

I’d like to give raves about this place but my experience wasn’t that great. Unfortunately, I was attacked by bed bugs and had an allergic reaction to their bites. I provided the hostel management team photos of what I looked like at day one and the last night of my stay. I also provided them with a video of the bed bug that was in my bed, which I found in the middle of my slumber. They are denying that they have bed bugs but clearly they did. Overall we had a great stay here. Nice location, good beds and good security (a code for the door and a nice locker). Also good working AC. The staff was very friendly, however, when my friend told one of the guys at the reception she had bedbugs in her bed (she was bitten all over), he did not take any action and did not seem to really care. When we came back the next day, he completely forgot to mention it to the housekeeping and his manager. His colleague helped us and took immediate action, but did not offer any compensation whatsoever. Apart from this, we had a good experience here.

Nice pool and comfortable beds but other than that my stay was ok. There is no real atmosphere because there is no real common area except for the pool. The kitchen you can use at the other hostel is just very gross and full of mosquitoes. Some of the staff was nice but when my friend told them she thinks she got bedbugs in her bed they didn’t do anything and told her she should have said something earlier. Only after telling someone else the next morning they took her seriously

Bed bugs . Bed bugs. Destroyed personal belongings. Would not stay there again
