Cwtsh Hostel

Stayed there for three nights in a 12 bed dorm in April. On the first evening, I found a bedbug in my pod (see picture attached). They hate light but the lights were still on, which means the room must be infested pretty badly. I told the employees as soon as this happened. They looked around the dorm and found other bedbug nests around other people's beds. I was also immediately offered to move to a different dorm (which I accepted) but the dorm stayed open and the other guests stayed. That offer in itself indicates that they probably knew that first dorm was infested in the first place (because otherwise, why would they offer to move me to a different bed that is just as likely to have bugs?) . No refund was offered. I didn't see any other bugs for the rest of my stay but the dorm stayed open, and new guests weren't notified of what had happened. Employees were comprehensive and tried to accommodate me as well as they could (especially considering the hostel was understaffed) ; but management obviously knows about this ongoing bug issue and is refusing to do anything about it. The cheap wood the beds are made of is the perfect hiding spot for bedbugs, and changing them altogether is the only way forward. On the last day, I spoke with the employee at reception who said she'd send my email to management to see if they'd offer a refund which they didn't do. I told her I didn't really care about a refund and I just wanted something to be done about it for future guests, but management doesn't seem to care about that at all. Until the issue is acknowledged and thoroughly delt with, I do not recommend staying there. Other than that, location is excellent (city center, central bus station & train station all very close ) and the employees were nice.

With 3 or 4 more nights to go (I was there for 31 nights), a Brit switched to my room and told me he'd been bitten by bed bugs the night before in a different room. Another Brit, a guy who basically lives there, said there is one room he refuses to stay in due to bed bugs.

Be careful, bed bugs . First time in my life I experienced bed bugs and it’s disgusting. The hostel should be shut down for cleaning. Rating does not correspond to reality

We had a deeply disappointing and unprofessional experience at this property. Despite clearly confirming a two-night stay from Thursday to Saturday at 9 PM via the Airbnb app,and receiving written confirmation ,we were unexpectedly asked to leave early. Without our consent, the staff packed our belongings and moved them without informing us. When we questioned this, they first denied seeing any messages. Once I showed them proof of the conversation, they shifted the blame and claimed that the person who responded on the Airbnb app "doesn't work here," suggesting it was a random individual managing their account. This was incredibly unprofessional and dishonest. Their actions forced us to cancel most of our plans for the day. We weren't even allowed to properly check if all of our belongings were accounted for. When we asked for just five minutes to gather our things, a staff member began yelling at us in front of others, which was humiliating and completely uncalled for. Additionally, the hygiene and basic facilities were below standard. There were bugs in the bed that made it difficult for us to sleep, and the kitchen is locked after midnight, meaning we couldn't even access drinking water late at night. Overall, the experience was stressful, disrespectful, and far from what one would expect from a professional hospitality service. I do not recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful or trustworthy stay.

It's to do with the cleaning mainly. My friend was bitten by bed bugs on two nights. We also witnessed a room fumigated over the same amount of time. I did spot a bed bug on my bag after we left. Once we were both home respectively, we had to extensively wash both our clothing and bags. As most of the guests are students or working, they would have no consideration over noise and keeping the room dark at night. It would be keeping the bathroom doors open with the light on to opening the lockers and their suitcases from 5 a.m. So, between the noisy bars and clubs nearby, we barely got any sleep. I am not faulting the hostel but as some of their staff were in the dorm room, I expected better. Most guests would clean up after themselves in the kitchen but the cleaned cutlery, plates and utensils were never put away. Therefore, everything began to pile up. The bathrooms need to be inspected more as the shower would leak due to the doors not closing and there would be lots of hair present. Underwear and other clothing would be left on the racks to dry. Which are things you don't want to deal with. During our stay, some students were in our dorm room for one night. Whilst they went out and enjoyed the nightlife, they returned at 5 a.m. with kebabs and beer. They were eating in their beds. I told them to take it to the kitchen as I didn't want to alert reception by messaging them at that early hour. Additionally, they booked a few beds but they were at least eight of them. When they checked out, one of the beds was wet; with what I don't want to imagine. The cleaner just left the bed to air dry, whilst someone checked in later and used that soiled mattress. The cleanliness needs to improve.

Bed bugs... The staff moved me to another bed and did my laundry, but it's still a horrible experience to have bed bugs, and I don't think their solution of moving guests to another bed is going to work in the long term. They need to thoroughly clean the entire hostel to eliminate those bugs. Also, very noisy outside during the night because it was in the city centre close to the area where people go out at night.

Stayed here from May 2-4, left absolutely covered in bed bug bites and the rest of my trip ruined. Usually I would give the benefit of the doubt that someone else must have brought them in, but this place seems to have a recurring issue with them.

I got bites from a couple of bed bugs. The water pressure is really poor. On my last day, a big group came to the hostel. They were there to perform a concert. Sadly, looks like they have never been in a hostel, super disrespectful, talking loud and laughing late at night and early in the morning, practicing (singing) in the room and people coming in and out all the time and shouting everywhere. If the hostel knows it is about to get a big group, they should block the platform for those dates.

Horrible. Bed bugs everywhere, got bitten, clothes got infested, and got no sleep before my exam. I've just seen some other reviews, it's disgusting that this issue has not been solved. Also, the dorm was heated to the point where I was constantly sweating- they DEFINITELY KNEW about the infestation but decided to keep the business open even though there are health risks. Someone who gets bitten at this establishment could have a severe allergic reaction leading to death. I wonder if the business would finally realise how much of a risk it is causing by staying open and not addressing the issue. I can smell a lawsuit.

Attention - BED BUGS!!! I want to report this hostel - it is dangerous because of the BED BUGS. I hade at least 50 bites all over my body. In the morning also another lady shared this, but she tought these were alergic reactions. When she saw my bites she was terrified. Please, get in touch with this hostel in order urgent measures to be taken!

It's a great hostel: location is perfect, staff friendly, great conversation. There is a lingering bed bug problem, though. I was bit 7 or 8 times three nights into my stay, told by the front desk that it may be mosquitoes, and politely offered a room change. Just wish it had been looked into, found this guy on the last night of my stay in my new bed. Hoping I don't bring any home with me!

While the location of this property was central and easy to access, the place itself was not great. There were bedbugs in the beds and even before discovering that my friends and I weren't really at ease here. Reception did give us a 50% refund due to the bedbugs, however I could've done without the whole situation.

Bed bug infestation. I told staff they already knew. Did not move me, did not inform other people in the room or offer compensation / refund. Terrible allowing people to check in a room knowing there bed bugs.

This hostel is fairly affordable for its price and location, lovely community environment in the kitchen and hangout space, the students on duty are very hospitable as well, love the layout of the rooms in enclosed boxes with individual room and privacy even in a dorm environment, however, just one problem, I got bit by bedbugs and am still itching, if this can be resolved for any person who comes in, I’d be happy to give a 5 star rating, thanks, but plz fumigate the beds!!

- I spotted bed bugs in my hostel room (woke up with one crawling over my face, and got bitten abundantly) - building is poorly isolated resulting in very high temperatures in room (including when it was cool outside) - and difficulty to sleep (no aircon), as well as in common areas like the kitchen - bunk beds in shared rooms have no curtains e.g. no intimacy which is normally a basic feature of a hostel

Unfortunately it was evident that there was an infestation of some kind. I suspect bedbugs but I'm not an entomologist. Found in more than one room at the hostel.

0 stars, if you like waking up to a number of bed bugs crawling over the pillows and bedding then stay here, if not then avoid 👌🏻 This property has a true infestation that needs to be professionally treated.

The shower head holder was flimsy and often kept tipping. There was also a leak at the bottom of one of the showers.

Everythings was OK at the beginning, until I found black hair on my bed on arrival but I ignored it, after a night I end up with bites, literally all over my body, I believe it's a bed bugs, if I took it back home ill be furious...

Utterly terrifying night. I booked a night in a 12 bed dorm and in spite the place looking comfortable and in good conditions, my night was ruined by the amount of bed bugs found in all of the bunks in the dorm. I was offered to switch beds within the same room but it was pointless. Most of my roommates left and staff kept bringing other guests into the room in spite of being aware of the PLAGUE of bed bugs. HUGE sanitary issues.

Don’t stay here. Bed bug infestation they did not properly address.

The bed had bed bugs. I have woken covered in bites and killed multiple throughout the night. I am now forced to clean all my clothes and luggage at my own cost in the fear of infestation.
