Stray Cat Hostel

We stayed here in their 10-bed dorm room (the one at the end of the hallway) for one night about two weeks ago and my entire group woke up with multiple bed bug bites. I personally was covered (30+). Our last day in Costa Rica and we had to spend it finding a place to treat our belongings in an attempt to not bring bedbugs home. The staff did give us a full refund, but if I could go back and tell myself never to stay here, I would. Bringing bed bugs home will cost you so much more than it would cost you to find a place to stay that’s bed bug free, I promise.

Sehr unsichere und häßliche Gegend! Von außen alles verschlossen und versperrt. Hier muß man erst an einer Stahltür klingeln um rein zu kommen. Mir ist unverständlich warum man in ein Hostel zieht, dass laut vielen Rezension ein schon längeres Bettwanzen Problem hat. Da nutzen auch die schönen Bunten Bilder im Hostel nichts. Sieht eher aus wie im Kindergarten. Auch die Nähe zu den Busbahnhöfen ist irrelevant, da man in San Jose für max. 1,500 Collones überall hin kommt... auch zum Bahnhof. Pura Vida...

Unfortunately my bed had bedbugs. I was chewed alive the moment I got into bed. I alerted the front desk attendant in the middle of night and they swiftly moved me. But I noticed they canceled my Hostelworld reservation (no refund) so I couldn’t leave a review. So I’m leaving a review here. They handled the situation well, but I don’t like how they tried to hide it so I couldn’t leave a review. Bed bugs are everywhere, but I would exercise extreme caution. I think they were hiding in the wood bedpost more than the mattresses. My bunk mate got bit as well.

The hostel isnt the most social but rather just a place where people stay for a night after or before a flight. Unfortunately I found a bed bug in my bed… ! The staff are really kind and helpful and they said they are taking care of the bedbugs.

the hostel was basic but good, until i woke up covered in bites. I went to the pharmacy and they confirmed it was bed bugs. book somewhere else to be safe! I informed staff via email after i left (as i didn’t realize until later that day) and they haven’t replied to me yet. i hope they will do something about it because i was COVERED after only one night. unfortunate because otherwise the hostel was good. not worth it though After seeing my review, Sergio contacted me immediately to apologize and has offered to refund my room and their airport pickup service which is generous. He also let me know that he is having a fumigator come tomorrow to check out the situation. Very glad to see they are taking the situation seriously and are very sympathetic to the stress the situation caused me. I hope they get the issue resolved soon!

I got bed bugs from here. Don’t go!!

Great security, lots of lockers. Staff welcoming and helpful. Kitchen and eating area work. We had bedbugs unfortunately but the staff had the beds stripped and disinfected/cleaned straight away which is reassuring. Would stay here again knowing how seriously they clean and look after the property.

We had bed bugs in our room. Luckily we saw them fast. Had to change the Hostel, where the Manager helped us with. Also a bad neighbourhood were we felt really unsafe in the area.

Shortly after we arrived at Stray Cat Hostel we found a living bed bug! The staff helped us move to a different place but we obviously still would not come back and do not recommend ! Also the location was in a really creepy and dangerous area, we were scared to walk around, especially at night. The hostel itself seemed to have a social atmosphere and the staff was really nice!

The hostel is quite nice Unfortunately I got begugs. Which is super annoying and disgusting ... so I can not say that it is clean. The staff is very friendly. The breakfast was very tasty. The other guests in the room were super loud and inconsiderate (for which the hostel of course nothing can). Because of the bedbug I can not recommend the Hostel.

Beware of bedbugs! Other than that the facilities were ok and location was good. Shared dorms are quite small
