This was the cheapest I had ever seen a Mad Monkey Hostel so I finally decided to book one. It was a great experience. The staff were all great, specially Malis and Sola gave great tours and were very friendly anytime I’d see them around the hostel after that. The vibe is great with tons of other travelers hanging out all day. However, I did find bed bugs on my last day. But the staff took it seriously, washed all my clothes and steamed my belongings, and even gave me a free meal after.

Stayed here for 2 nights which was far too long! The hostel was absolutely filthy, the room had a horrible smell and there were no lockers or keys to the room so anyone could walk in. Don’t stay here unless you enjoy using Chat GPT to decipher the difference between a mosquito bite or a bed bug bite.

The aircon did not work, and it 40 degree weather meant we did not sleep at all. There was bed bugs, the bathrooms smelt awful but you get what you pay for. It is very cheap. Only thing that was good was the lovey host who was very helpful with booking transport and the tours - the rest of the staff spoke no english which made it impossible to order food and ask questions.

Social Backpacker Hostel & Rooftop Bar è una base economica family-run a Battambang con un rooftop che fa gran parte del lavoro pesante: cibo, drink, family dinner e un posto chill per conoscere altri viaggiatori quando l’ostello ha abbastanza energia nell’edificio. La posizione è centrale, vicino a mercato, fiume, negozi, ristoranti, driver tuk-tuk e passeggiate facili in città. Il tour di un giorno intero può essere una parte forte del soggiorno, e il noleggio scooter può essere disponibile per esplorare in autonomia. C’è anche un negozio di vestiti secondhand o vintage collegato all’ostello, cosa che dà al posto un feel più handmade e da famiglia locale che da catena lucidata. Le camere sono basiche ma spesso dal buon valore, con letti comodi, aria condizionata in molti casi e opzioni semplici dorm o private. Il cibo è un vero plus qui: pasti rooftop, family dinner, drink economici e piatti come lok lak e tofu lok lak danno all’ostello più personalità di un semplice letto a basso prezzo. Non è un ostello slick. L’edificio può sembrare vecchio, i bagni sono un punto debole ricorrente e il vibe sociale può oscillare tra amichevole e tranquillo a seconda di chi c’è. Sceglilo per budget, cene rooftop, posizione centrale e calore da famiglia locale; saltalo se bagni immacolati, strutture affidabili e sistemi lucidati contano più del prezzo.
