BED BUGS is apparently a normal occurrence here. They didn’t seem surprised when I woke up covered in bites. For me this is the most traumatic thing that I vigilantly avoid while travelling. I never put my bag down near my bed, thankfully, but that was almost impossible in this tiny room with literally no space for anything but 5 beds. No point even taking about anything else when you have bedbugs but I might as well: at first the French receptionists were so lovely, and this looked like an amazing social hostel, attached to another hostel. Massive kitchen. Netflix room. Perfect right...? WRONG! Firstly I got charged 10 pesos more for a towel. Music from the bar pumped on till way past midnight. A/C was pathetic, and only came on between 10pm and 7am... what’s the point!? The bathroom was dingy and kept locking itself! Morning pancakes were burnt and didn’t help my distress of having bedbugs bites all over my body (I flipped the mattress over and saw a family of bedbugs red and engorged after feeding on my blood like an all night Vegas buffet) As soon as I told reception they apologised and refunded me, saying people that came from nearby beach villages tend to get bedbugs so they store their bags upstairs on the roof. However this can be prevented with ample locker space and room for bags not piled on top of one another

Il rooftop bar è il motore sociale di Puerto Dreams H: drink, musica, promo giornaliere, serate salsa, feste di compleanno e persino un DJ set techno-house del venerdì possono trasformare il posto da basecamp chill a piccola scena vera. È un ostello nel centro di Puerto Escondido, con un setup sociale forte guidato dai volontari. Le attività sono frequenti, con piani che vanno da uscite serali a cibo locale, cose sportive, hangout rilassati e gite di gruppo in città. La vibe può funzionare bene per solo traveler che vogliono entrare facilmente nelle conversazioni senza dover andare in modalità party animal totale. Il setup include cafe nella lobby, coworking, cucine condivise, piante, aree comuni e camere private che possono essere spaziose e pulite. La posizione è vicina al mercato, alla zona ADO, a cibo economico, supermercati e colectivos, quindi è pratica per vivere Puerto in modalità locale. Non è un ostello rifinito da zona spiaggia. La Punta e alcune aree nightlife richiedono una corsa, le spiagge possono essere una lunga camminata calda, e la struttura è divisa tra due edifici vicini. Il comfort varia per camera, con attriti ricorrenti su orari limitati dell’AC, docce fredde, locker piccoli, poche prese su alcuni letti, cura della cucina e occasionali mancanze di manutenzione.
Segnali da controllare
- L’AC può essere limitata alle ore notturne e può non sembrare abbastanza forte nelle camere più calde.
- L’ostello è in centro, non a La Punta né direttamente sulla spiaggia.
- Alcuni dorm e camere private possono sembrare essenziali, bui, rumorosi o mantenuti in modo discontinuo.
- L’acqua calda può essere limitata o non disponibile.
- Attrezzatura da cucina, locker, prese e deposito bagagli possono essere più deboli del previsto.
