Penthouse on 34-The Highest Hostel in Kuala Lumpur

Would not stay there again, left after a night discovering there was bed bugs. There is also a cat that lives there and was no told about. The dorm rooms and bathroom did not have proper locks on the door.

booked it in spite of bad reviews, wouldn‘t recommend it… dirty bathrooms, everything smells a bit, bugs in the bed (i didnt actually have bedbugs but a tiny cockroach!), not that social. i left earlier than planned… the pool is really nice though, but the building is huge and has many other hotels and hostels inside that might be more worth staying there and you can also use the pool

absolutely do not stay here. They are keeping 3 small cats in a tiny cage and when we confronted staff about it they were extremely rude and later proceeded to shout at us for telling other guests about it. We asked to let them out of the cage and got told they’re now our responsibility? Also, BED BUGS!! they offered to change the sheets but it needs properly fumigating to get rid of the clearly ongoing issue they have. I checked out early.I promise the view is not worth staying in this place.

Very dirty hostel, cats in the room and the bathrooms are never cleaned. Someone in my dorm had bed bugs. Would not recommend staying here. Only redeeming quality is the view.

We booked this hostel based on the photos and facilities, but the actual experience was completely different. The place is in very poor condition — the flooring is literally taped down with masking tape, the bathroom ceiling is exposed and full of mould, mould in the dorms and the “drawer” under the sink fell off and hit my toe because it was hanging by 2 nails. The shower pressure is terrible and the whole place feels unhygienic. The staff were very rude and unhelpful throughout. At one point, while we were still paying guests, they moved all of our belongings out of our bed without permission, instead of contacting us directly (even though they had my WhatsApp and number). When we returned, they blamed us for the situation rather than apologising. After speaking with the manager (Khan), I was blocked on WhatsApp and later found that my Hostelworld booking had been cancelled despite me staying and paying, preventing me from leaving a review there. The lift can take up to 10 minutes to arrive, and the pool (which is the main reason we booked) is not as shown in the photos. It’s shared between several tower blocks, always crowded, dirty, and the “skyline view” is covered by cloudy, filthy glass — so there’s nothing to see. We also experienced bed bugs during our stay. Overall, the photos online are very misleading, the property is in poor and unsanitary condition, and the management handled everything unprofessionally. I would strongly advise other travellers to avoid this place like the plague and look elsewhere in Kuala Lumpur — there are far better options for the same price or cheaper!!

We booked this hostel based on the photos, but the reality was awful. The place is filthy and falling apart — flooring taped down, mould in the dorms and bathroom, exposed ceilings, and broken fixtures. Staff were rude and even moved our belongings without permission, then blocked me after I complained. The lift takes ages, the pool is dirty and crowded, and we had bed bugs. Completely misleading photos and unprofessional management — avoid this place at all costs!

I stayed in a private room in La Vista, which is part of the Penthouse 34 hostel, it's the same owners. Initially I enjoyed my stay, the view and the infinity pool are amazing. The hostel itself is basically an apartment turned into a hostel, but it was alright. Just before going to bed the last night, I found a bedbug in my room. I also had several bites from the night before, that I thought were from mosquitoes at first. They moved me to a dorm room for the night. When I contacted the owner the later about this issue, he refused to refund me. He said it wasn't the hostels fault, because someone else probably brought them in. But it is still the hostel's job to accommodate the guest and ensure the room is clean and bedbug free. Bedbugs are a horrible experience and I have the risk to take bedbugs in my luggage now as well. So I would expect a refund in such case. Unfortunately I can't recommend to stay here, I would've wanted to write a different review.

Good views BUT the place is crawling with bed bugs to the extent that I couldn’t sleep as I was itching all night!! Never felt clean, the shower was a trickle of water and the bathroom was dirty and always soaked with water, creating a slipping hazard as no mats. The staff weren’t accommodating or the friendliest when I asked to change rooms to be with my sister as there were 3 free beds in her room the whole time, they said no despite me saying I would pay extra for a cleaning fee/bed change.

Great facilities (pool and gym) and the hostel events (mingle and dinner) were fun. Unfortunately bed bugs were found in my room! A guy in the bed near me said he saw them the night before and told staff but they did nothing. Now they have been spotted across a few beds and only now the staff are acting on it! They did end up paying for my washing and are acting on getting them gone, but not ideal!

First of all, the pool on the pictures is not in the hostel! However, they do offer 2 pools for guests in this complex of buildings. Pluses: there are plenty of facilities around: laundry, small shop, coffee place and a huge mall within 5 minutes walk. The terrace of the hostel itself has a great view. Minuses: no hot water and I’m quite sure my sheets were not changed after the previous guests (hiatus). In the second morning I found 4 bed bugs in my bed (smbd brought them, so not hostel fault)

Do not stay here! The room looked nothing like described and when we arrived we were met with a very overpowering chemical smell that made us feel dizzy and unwell. When we asked about this they were reluctant to admit it was there & then were vague about the reasoning (apparently bed bug spray). We were forced to check out early because of this and were given no refund. Appalling service and facilities- avoid! There’s a better hotel in the same block for the same price, go there instead

View is the only good thing. Staff was terrible, didn’t care about anything Rooms ok but bed had bed bugs, checked out 2 nights early, staff didn’t care. If you are tall good luck sitting on the toilet. Terrible location!!! Nothing in walking distance. Fake grass on the balcony that is always wet but you can’t wear shoes in the hostel. Don’t give you towels but will sell you a tiny little microfiber towel. No hot water and everything smelled of mildew. Once again, staff was terrible!

The cleanliness was not good and I had bed bugs and when I told the staff, they did not react and did nothing.
