Generator Barcelona review Absolutely terrible, very surprising because other generator hostels were always pretty great. Sort by lowest ratings to see what it is, some staff(like Joao) bribes you with freebies (like a 6eur towel) to write a nice review for them. They advertise AC in the room, except our was broken. The staff downstairs lies to you saying it's working and they turned it on and doesn't believe when we show them the photo with "ERR" on it. Sleeping in a room with 7 people, broken AC, no ventilation, 93% humidity, window that only opens few cm is impossible. Also your clothes don't try and get mildew. Next day some ladies at the reception actually listened to us and sent a maintenance guy, who fixed except it broke after 2 days and then the same cycle of lies with promises of sending the maintenance. Even begging because we had a 8hr drive next day didn't help. At least we had some USB fans this time so managed 4hrs of sleep. Seems like only the morning shift has competent employees (some ladies whos name I unfortunately don't know, because they never actually asked for any 'favours', worked in the morning on 12.07.2025). Whole place is breaking down, floors not cleaned and get sticky, bathroom has mold, shared showers don't have any shelves to put your stuff on. Inconsistent policies, the reception ladies were happy to hold onto our packages, the reception dude told us off "because we have 700 people living here". If you are doing laundry you need to sit there and police it otherwise someone will take it out in the middle of the wash. The social aspect is pretty good I guess if you are young and into reggaeton.

Generator is an amazing place to stay! Shout if to the reception staff Kenya and Pau them guys are legend, they deserve a pay rise for less hours! 10/10 will definitely stay again! Nothing, I loved everything.

free shot for the review
Alessandro was awesome (because we got a free shot for the review) 🍻 the hostel itself (rooms & showers) is pretty cramped, don’t supply towels or soap, beers are ridiculously expensive and there is a fine for consuming your own alcohol - location & breakfast is good and the staff are friendly

A calamity. Deceptive reviews and employee behavior, employees regularly offer free upgrades etc for 5 star reviews. I stayed in 3 different rooms, there was mold/mildew in every shower. One of the windows in the rooms could only be closed by a worker with a key as the handle was broken, we didnt know this and it stayed open all night, with the air-conditioning running. They once rebooked me in a girls only room, which was an uncomfortable surprise for me and the poor girls there, I had to move my stuff to a different room. I could forgive a lot of this if not for the exorbitant price and dishonest review system. A hostel in decline, one to avoid.

It was OK. Modern but no towels for showing in the tiny tiny bathroom.Weird underbed lockers that I didn't like.Drinks were too pricy.Staff was always busy at front desk. They asked me several times if I would provide a good review but this hostel was only OK.

Analisi dell'atmosfera
Generator Barcelona è un albergo grande e affollato in una forte posizione di Barcellona, in particolare per Gracia, Diagonal, Verdaguer, Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo, collegamenti metropolitani, autobus e cibo nelle vicinanze. L'accoglienza può essere utile, e ci sono lampi di energia dell'ostello attraverso il bar, la colazione, le attività e un evento di sangria gratuito. Questo non e' un tranquillo nascondiglio sociale. Può sembrare più un grande hotel economico con dormitori, gruppi scolastici, adolescenti, code, rumore nei corridoi e controllo limitato quando l'edificio diventa caotico. Il lato sociale esiste, ma può essere un colpo o un fallimento se l'obiettivo è una scena facile per un backpacker. Le camere sono spesso strette, con poco spazio intorno ai letti, armadietti imbarazzanti, senza tende e bagni che possono essere estremamente piccoli. La pulizia e la manutenzione sono i principali punti deboli: pavimenti sporchi, muffe, cattivi odori dei corridoi, tappeti stanchi, apparecchiature rotte, lavandini che perdono acqua, docce scadenti, carta igienica mancante e ascensori lenti o inaffidabili sembrano tutti rischi reali. La matematica pratica è semplice: prenotate per località, scala e comodità di base, non per fascino o comfort. Può funzionare per una breve sosta a Barcellona, se le aspettative sono basse e le scale, il rumore, gli extra pagati e le camere compatte sono accettabili.
