New Samay Hostel

The only real con that I can add here is that a private room is competitively priced with other, nicer hotels, so for the price point, the value is not the same as other locations.

This hostel has bedbugs!!! After checking in to the New Samay Hostel on July 3, 2023 and sleeping the night, I woke up the next morning with multiple burning and itching bedbug bites. That night, I caught a live bedbug on my bed, and immediately packed up my things and took the bug down to reception. The manager Pablo was off duty, but I spoke to him on the phone and he insisted that the rooms were professionally cleaned regularly and the bedbugs must have been brought by a traveller. However, upon lifting up the mattress, I have never seen such dirt in all my travels. There was a rotting q-tip, hair, lint, and other unmentionable debris piled high. It looked like it had not been cleaned in YEARS. The entire surface under the mattress had a film of oil, hair, and literal garbage. The sheets were stained, as was the curtain around my bed. The hygiene of this room was simply revolting. Furthermore, Pablo instructed the volunteers at the desk not to inform the other guests in the room that bedbugs had been found. As a human decency, I would be horrified if someone knew this information and did not inform me, so I personally went and told my roommates what had happened, and they immediately either checked out or switched rooms. The fact that Pablo tried to hide this discovery from guests in the room is highly disturbing to me. I waited until morning, and then had the cost of my stay refunded. However, the majority of my belongings must now be disgarded as the delicate linen and specialized synthetic fabrics cannot withstand the high washing and drying temperatures required to kill bedbugs. To have this huge cost and distress incurred mid-trip is simply disastrous, and I would warn anyone to stay away from this nightmare!! I have filled out the government claims and complaint form and submitted my copy to the Samay Hostel for review, as the cost to replace my destroyed items must be reimbursed. If they do not reimburse the cost within the next ten days, the issue will be escalated to the government to be further addressed. This incident has been documented in detail and is an example of stunning negligence on the part of the management of this establishment. I will update my review once the settlement process for the destroyed items has been completed.

I noticed traces of bed bugs when I checked in but assumed I was mistaken only to realize that there were bed bugs after I checked out. WATCH OUT FOR BED BUGS HERE. Would not recommend.

Got bed bug bites all over body.. bathroom in shared female dorm needs to be renovated
