Haka House Taupo

I got bed bugs here. The staff were nice and let me change my booking for free even though it was me who messed up the dates. But I still have to give a 1 star review cause I got bed bugs.

Unterkunft ist ganz okay. Betten waren gemütlich aber ich wurde überall von Bettwanzen gestochen. Außerdem konnte man nur zu komischen Uhrzeiten waschen und die wäsche wurde nicht trocken

There are very few toilets to share between a lot of people. On my first night a girl complained of bed bugs - this wasn't confirmed but no one in the room was moved so that a proper clean could be done.

BED BUGS!!, when I went into the dorm to choose a bed I found dead bedbugs in two of the beds and it was generally a dirty room. I went to the reception here to report this. Luckily I got a new room. But there were a lot of dead insects in the building so I didn't feel comfortable. I wanted to cancel the two nights at 1:30 PM this was not possible because of the 24 hour policy so then I went to look for another place where I could stay overnight. Until I realized that I could cancel my second night this was at 2:20 pm this was also not possible because there were already 24 hours to cancel in advance which was strange because I was on time the first time. It had to be before 2:00 pm the next day. Felt very scammed that I couldn't cancel my second night while I asked it on time the first time.

Our rooms were small, and the people whom we shared our rooms with were loud. Woke us up at 6 am in the morning with their phones ringing and talking. I also felt there were bed bugs biting my leg and crawling. I also did not like that the bathroom were always wet with no fan in there. The towels could’ve been changed often or even provided extra towels in there. The kitchen although provided everything were often left uncleaned/crumbs everywhere.

Would not recommend staying here, as hostel manager doesn’t seem to care about the safety of the people who are there. There were weird things said to me by a male guest, and after a few days he was moved into the shared dorm I was in. I asked the manager about him hoping he would be able to move me and my boyfriend out of the dorm into another, and the managers words were ‘we get lots of weirdos here I don’t know everyone.’ And didn’t offer to move me. The male guest also smoked in the room that night as well and the next day we checked out and went somewhere else. On checking out the manager said why are we leaving and I told him because of the male guest and he didn’t ask any follow up questions, even though he knew I felt uncomfortable as I’d talked to him the night before. I worry that if any incident happened at that hostel involving guests he wouldn’t care or do anything about it. I would avoid this hostel based on this, you want to feel safe where you’re staying. On top of this pest control was there and the manager and pest control came into the room and were talking about signs of bed bugs. When asked he said this was a routine check, but based on everything that had happened I don’t trust him, and one room was closed with bedding off and mattresses upright.

Biggest challenge we had here: The bed of my girlfriend had bed bugs! This is a no go! Das Hostel ist hellhörig aber es ging für eine Nacht. Die Terrasse im ersten Stock ist nett. Riesen Problem, weshalb ich jedem von einer Buchung abraten muss: Das Bett meiner Freundin hatte Bettwanzen. Das geht einfach nicht!
