    DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Filthy, unsafe, and terrible response from staff. We’re experienced backpackers and don’t mind staying in cheap/rundown accomodation, read the other reviews and thought we’d be fine - but we had to bail after only the first night because I felt so unsafe. When asking for help/refund via email, phone calls, and google review, I have been completely ignored or given weak, useless replies.

    There were so many things about the a&o Rotterdam that was just simply not fair or right. Our check in got delayed with over an hour , then the magnetic card to the outside door and the room door was not working , each time we left the room we had to queue at the reception to get it fixed. The reception was over crowded, the staff under pressure. The place operates with low number of staff so everything takes time and it’s inefficient. The heating in the room 163 was broken so I had to ask for two portable heaters that were dusty and made the room smell bad as they heated up. One of them was broken and flickering so decided not to use it. The shower was moldy and worn down, shower head had a broken plastic tube so water spraying everywhere. On top the internet was not working properly. I know we didn’t pay for a 5 star stay but ! We stayed in another brand hotel in Amsterdam same number of days for the same amount of money and it was really good and we were really satisfied. I stayed in a&o on several occasions the past 10 years in many European cities and this Rotterdam one should be shut down because the operation is below standard. I asked for compensation and booking.com said it couldn’t reach to an agreement with the hotel.
