Volledige reviewDon’t trust this hostel to book any transfers! We booked and paid for our transfer through the hostel 3 weeks prior to needing it, and on the morning of we waited 2 hours for the transfer to show up, eventually having to pay to get the public bus. The two people on reception were utterly unhelpful, and didn’t seem to care either. They had no contact number or info for the transfer, despite claiming they would sort it for 2 hours and lying about it being on the way. Apart from this, the rooms have a serious lack of air conditioning and are roasting. During the middle of the night at 2 am, a man came into our room. We have no idea how he had a key to get into our room or if it was staff. The only plus about this hostel is the location, price and pool.

Volledige reviewNot a safe place for women. They have this sexist wheel in the hostel, and for exemple if you don't accept to take off your clothes in front of everyone, the volunteers get mad at you. This is unacceptable in 2025. As a woman, I felt very uncomfortable seeing this.

Volledige reviewStayed in more the 50 hostels and this was not quite my cup of tea. Too loud, got robbed, people in my dorm lighted incense, and had the AC all night so it got very cold. Pool is nice, showers are ok, personnel were ok. But didnt help on the robery.

multiple people in our group had cash stolen directly from their bags and wallets
Volledige review tonen
Volledige review“Like a Sauna with Thieves and Attitude – A Cautionary Tale” If you're looking for the full hostile hostel experience, look no further. This place manages to be both sweltering and cold-hearted in equal measure. Despite promising air conditioning in their listing, what we got was 36 degrees of unrelenting heat and exactly zero degrees of empathy. One of our group resorted to sleeping with a bag of ice just to survive the night – and woke up soaked, not with sweat from restful sleep, but from her rapidly melted bedfellow. When we asked for the air con, we were told the remote was a sacred relic guarded at the front desk. Our repeated offers to pay for an upgrade or cover the cost of the air con were met with sneers and shrugs from staff who clearly missed the "hospitality" part of hostel management. The rudeness didn’t end there. Staff made sure to add a tip to every bill – even if you were just buying a bottle of water. We asked, again and again, not to include tips. They ignored us, and we eventually had to eat the cost of their involuntary generosity. A 60-person group buying water and beers adds up fast when you’re tipping for every cap twisted. Bedsheets? Only if you brought your own or are content sleeping under your paid-and-tipped-for towel. A majority of our 50-60 person group were left to burrito themselves in bathroom linen because apparently, sheets are a luxury item now. And just when you think it couldn’t get worse, multiple people in our group had cash stolen directly from their bags and wallets. When we raised it with staff, we got the same response we received about the air con: absolutely nothing. In short, this place is the Bermuda Triangle of basic decency – hot, unhelpful, and mysteriously short on your money by the end.

Volledige reviewUncomfortable and shifty place, STAY AWAY for sure. We stayed as a large group, reserving many of the large rooms entirely for ourselves. The location and appearance of the hostel is nice, but that’s all it has. STOLEN MONEY: The biggest issues was having money taken from our rooms when we were all at a hostel organised boat tour. They told us to leave all cash and cards, as we could only pay with wristbands. Approximately 10-15 people had both USD and MXN taken. A total of ~400 USD was taken from secure places deep in our bags, meaning they rummaged through our belongings when they knew we wouldn’t be there. We confronted the staff who said they would look into it and the manager would be in touch, however were told the manager would ‘not be around’ until after we left, and we heard absolutely nothing since. STAFF ADDING TIPS THEMSELVES: Furthermore, bartenders were adding 20% tips onto every purchase at the bar, despite numerous times being asked not to. Again when we confronted them, nothing was done. NO AIR CONDITIONING: The rooms looked nice but had no bedsheets and a non-functioning AC machine, making it impossible to sleep. Again we asked them about this and were told it was on max, until the last of 3 nights. SAFETY CONCERNS: The majority of staff were inattentive and uninterested in our concerns, and many rooms even had random men entering at multiple occasions during the day. I would seriously question the safety of this hostel and would definitely NOT RECOMMEND.

Volledige reviewThe rooms were nice and the amenities were great. However, the heat was unbearable especially at night. I would’ve gladly paid extra just to have air conditioning, a basic necessity in 36oC heat My biggest issue was having 500 pesos stolen during a hostel-organized boat party. The money was taken from my private room, which I was only sharing with close friends. There were several instances (both in my room and in friends rooms) where unidentified men entered claiming to “turn off the air conditioning,” even outside the hours when that would make sense (especially strange as I knew reception staff usually controlled the AC) Despite reporting the incident of stolen money, the staff failed to investigate or provide any real response to my concerns about security. I left with no answers and serious doubts about the safety of this hostel.

a number of people in our group all had money stolen from wallets/bags in the dorm rooms. We knew everyone in our dorm rooms and all of us were gone on the boat party, meaning someone from the hostel accessed our rooms while we were gone and went through all of our belongings. Approximately 300 USD along with 3000 pesos were missing from our group.

Volledige reviewStayed here for 3 nights with a large group of people; the hostel itself is in a good location and is a nice property that is kept clean. The rooms are decent but are unbearably hot - the air conditioning was more for decoration than anything and it was impossible to get a good nights sleep with how warm it was. The biggest issue with this hostel is with the staff. We travelled as a large group of around 50-60 people and while we were all at the hostel-organized boat party, a number of people in our group all had money stolen from wallets/bags in the dorm rooms. We knew everyone in our dorm rooms and all of us were gone on the boat party, meaning someone from the hostel accessed our rooms while we were gone and went through all of our belongings. Approximately 300 USD along with 3000 pesos were missing from our group. When we originally brought it up with the staff they were unconcerned and dismissed it. We went back again when we realized just how much money was gone and they finally said they would look at the security cameras. We were told the manager would come and speak to us before we left but we never saw him. This issue was handled horribly, and we never got any sort of resolution or real response from the manager. Several of the staff members, including one bartender in particular, were outright rude and had extremely poor customer service - rolling their eyes and sighing when you’d ask for a drink at the bar. I felt like a nuisance just for asking for a bottle of water. The payment system at the hostel is “tap to pay” with their rubber wristbands - which means you don’t know how much you are being charged until you go to pay your total tab at checkout. One of the bartenders was putting tips on people’s bills without them knowing or asking if they wanted to tip, and they didn’t know until it was too late. Ultimately, this place has potential to be a good hostel but it is completely ruined by the awful attitude of the staff. I would strongly recommend finding a different place to stay in Bacalar.

money was taken from our locked dorms totalling about 300USD and 3000 pesos
Volledige review tonen
Volledige reviewHad a 3 night stay here recently with a large group. Hostel is situated in a really nice building and the all the facilities are generally very good and well looked after. We also had great fun taking part in the boat party organized by Sasha who was great. Unfortunately I have nothing else positive to relay from our experience. During the boat party, money was taken from our locked dorms totalling about 300USD and 3000 pesos. When this was reported to management at the hostel they said they would look into it and then promptly did nothing. In addition to this the air conditioning in the rooms was atrocious. Air conditioning was turned on from 7pm to 8am and did absolutely nothing to cool the rooms down. It was often cooler to sleep outside the room at night rather than inside. We had high hopes coming to Che Bacalar but following this experience I would urge anyone to stay elsewhere if they come to Bacalar.

Multiple of my friends had money stolen from their rooms during the boat party.
Volledige review tonen
Volledige reviewStayed here 3 nights with a big group. Multiple of my friends had money stolen from their rooms during the boat party. We were the only people staying in said rooms meaning that the only other people who had access would’ve been people who work there like cleaners or other staff. Other guests reported the same during their stays. When we said this to the front desk they could not be less helpful or interested; the complaints were not taken seriously. The rooms were ridiculously hot despite fans and absolutely ineffective air conditioning, which made it difficult to sleep. I don’t recommend staying here - nobody in my group left satisfied with their experience, myself included.

something has been stolen in my dorm
Volledige review tonen
Volledige reviewThe place is clean and looks good. I liked the rooftop and its view. It's a party hostel and my bad I did not realize before being in it. The people were not super respectful in the dorm (loud noise and talking in the middle of the night) and the vibe was a bit weird (something has been stolen in my dorm). The kitchen is not really furnished, they have a full kitchen downstairs to sell food but no salt or oil in the kitchen for backpackers. As a long term traveller I did not fit in the place.

Volledige review tonen
Volledige reviewCant fault the location or the facilities, but LOCK UP YOUR STUFF - I had several items stolen here. The lockers are huge so if you value it, lock it up. Staff overall very lovely and helpful, especially the events team, but some staff seem completely disinterested - the young American (?) on reception seemed more interested in flirting with the girls checking in behind me than in helping me get a taxi to the bus station.

Volledige reviewThe hostel was clean and served its purpose, but I had two very unpleasant experiences during my stay. First, one of my roommates was drunk. Despite informing the hostel staff about how uncomfortable this made me, they still let him stay in the room because all the volunteers were also drunk and wanted to party. At 3 a.m., I woke up to the man pulling back the curtain of my bed and pulling down his pants, completely drunk again. I pushed him away, terrified, and he then opened the door to the room and started urinating. After that, I couldn’t sleep. When I reported it the next morning, the receptionist didn’t even apologize. On a positive note, the Argentine bartender and the cook were very friendly. We booked transportation to Belize through the hostel, but we asked three separate times if we needed cash to cross the border and were told no. However, when we got to the border, we were scammed (which seems to be common there). On top of that, the tour took us to withdraw Belizean dollars to pay a man who handled the pesos for us, costing us 1,000 pesos to cross the border (which isn’t necessary). While we understand this is an issue with the border, the hostel shouldn’t work with these companies or at least should properly inform guests about what to expect. Overall, my experience was bad because the hostel lacked proper staff—there was no one in charge other than volunteers, which led to irresponsibility. This was by far my worst experience at a Che hostel, and I wouldn’t recommend this one. Everything felt far too careless.

Volledige reviewA drunk 40-year-old man, nearly vomiting, fell on top of us in the room. Despite notifying the staff, they allowed him to stay. At 3 a.m., he opened my bed curtain, pulled down his pants, and urinated in the room entrance. no one even apologized. We also booked transportation to Belize through the hostel and were told we didn’t need cash for the border, but we were scammed and charged 1,000 pesos unnecessarily. too many volunteers and no responsible people on site

We left an item on our shelf & when we came back to the room it had disappeared. At first we thought it had slipped down the side of the bed, but when it wasn’t there we realised someone must have stolen it.
Volledige review tonen
Volledige reviewThe place is pretty modern, with really comfy beds (curtains in dorms) & the showers are really powerful. The location is really good, only a 2 minute walk to where you can swim in the lagoon. Which is mostly why we booked this place. It’s got a party vibe, but not too much so & you can’t hear the music from the bar once you’re in the rooms. We booked a sailing tour with them also & had an incredible time & met some lovely people. We left an item on our shelf & when we came back to the room it had disappeared. At first we thought it had slipped down the side of the bed, but when it wasn’t there we realised someone must have stolen it. So we went to reception to check whether it had maybe been handed in, fortunately it had. Whoever took it obviously realised it was of no value to them & handed it in. We’re glad to got it back, but it did leave a sour taste in our mouth about the place. So just watch your valuables here!!

Unfortunately, we had something stolen from one of our bunks. Whoever stole it, obviously realised it was of no value & then took it to lost & found. As that is where we eventually found it.

Volledige reviewThe location is great, which is mostly why we booked this hostel. It’s a 10 minute walk to the centre of town & 1 minute to the lake. The facilities are good, with hot powerful showers, a swimming pool, comfy beds (with curtains), kitchen & plenty of seating areas. We booked onto the sailing tour which was 750 pesos per person & it was really fab. We had an awesome afternoon (despite some rain) & met some wonderful people. There is definitely a party vibe here, but it’s not as bad as some hostels we’ve stayed in. Fortunately, the rooms are well insulated & you can’t hear the loud music from the bar. Unfortunately, we had something stolen from one of our bunks. Whoever stole it, obviously realised it was of no value & then took it to lost & found. As that is where we eventually found it. This left a bit of a sour taste in our mouth & made us feel on edge. We tried to extend our stay by one night but the price had bumped up so drastically that we decided against it & booked somewhere else for our final night. It’s crazy that we paid 749 pesos for 2 people for 2 nights, but 1 additional night was going to cost 870 pesos for 2 people. Overall, it was an okay place to stay for our time in Bacalar, but we wouldn’t race back here.

I have been stolen my money in my room, since I had no locker and they didn't provide one.
Volledige review tonen
The breakfast is fine, and the stuff helpful. The philosophy of the Che, however is making money by people partying like crazy. I have travelled a lot, and never been stolen, since I came here. I don't understand how the don't have lockers in the room. You need to take your own. I have been stolen my money in my room, since I had no locker and they didn't provide one. I know it was there when it happened because I didn't take out my bag in any moment (I usually take only some amount that I need but not the rest of the money) and I just noticed once I left the hostel and needed that money. I shared the room with girls, and some of them arrived drunk in the middle of the night, they waked us up both nights. Really noisy hostel.

Robbery!
Volledige review tonen
Volledige reviewAll the facilities were great. Comfy beds. I was worried about noise from parties but my room was silent. I saw one girl leaving annoyed due to lack of AC but my room was good The price was outrageous. And super variable. If I looked at a day 2 weeks out it was like a third of the price. I was paying for 2 nights what another girl paid for a week. And it wasn't even full. Robbery!

a guest entered our room though key pad code
Volledige review tonen
Volledige reviewWe stayed here for 3 nights in a private room. On the second night at 3am a guest entered our room though key pad code. They were drunk and made a mistake, but they had the code to come into our room, which was very concerning for item and wellbeing safety. When I shared this with the staff and requested a new code, they dismissed the concern, were visibly frustrated by the request, and refused to change the key code. I would not recommend this hostel.

Volledige review tonen
Volledige reviewWorst Hostel I've staye at, and the most expensive one!!! Not worth the money! It just looks beautiful. The personal are soooo unfriendly and they try to rip you off for everything possible. This is the first Hostel that charged me 150 pesos for towels! On the second day they had construction and the whole area and pool and Restaurant was closed and dust was everywhere, they just didn't care about the guests and didn't tell us in advance. I booked via Hostelworld and before getting there I decided to stay one extra night, the change was not possible on HW so I wanted to check cancelation fee, but my booking got canceled. So I went there and paid with Cash and stayed 4 nights. After I left, they charged me again the full amount for canceling on HW! I paid twice for the same accomadation and they don't answer my E-Mails and don't care. They only care about their money and getting the most out of guests. The AC was in my face the whole night in the top bunk, and I got sick really bad. When I told them, they said you should have booked a private room, it's not our Problem. In other Hostels, the least they do is say sorry and let's find a solution! Most unfriendly personal ever. Don't stay at this Hostel!!!

people steal food and are extremely loud in the dorms even late
Volledige review tonen
Volledige reviewIt would be a great hostel but I think the guests just ruin it. Anyone staying here doesn’t really have commin sense on how to live in a hostel, people steal food and are extremely loud in the dorms even late. Water was run out of kitchen all the time which is also quite annoying. The hostel is quite clean though! Stay here if you don’t care about the things above, I do, so for me definitely not again.

Volledige reviewThere’s really loud music and drinking everyday from 2 pm. If thats what you’re after this is probably a great hostel, lots of activities, big pool, warm showers, but I didn’t enjoy it. Feels a bit like a hotel. Drunk people came in to the room when people where already sleeping and starting talking to me and bothering me and when someone texted the staff, nothing was done. I have met some fun people here to go to the yak party with tho. Just pretty much what you expect from a party hostel

Volledige reviewMy stay here was awful. Unfriendly people, just here to party til 4 am, some had s*x in my dorm. The mood is definitely cultish, kind of weird to explain. No Breakfast, and the bar/restaurant was really expensive (60 MXN for a beer !!). It’s more a summercamp / X-project hostel. I recommend to spend a few more bucks in a real hostel.

Vibe-analyse
