BED BUGS - BE AWARE Currently bed-bug infestation in the hostel. My legs and another girls in my rooms were attached and are disgusting. I've had to put my trip on hold as I recover from the bites and also spend money on medical advice, medication, and treatment. AVOID!!

AWARE - BEG BUGS Please be aware there are currently bed bugs in the 8-person dorm. DO NOT book this room. Cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms also less than desirable. Otherwise, great social environment and roof top.

Honestly as a fellow kiwi it disappoints me to say that this is simply not it. The staff are great but the building is old, dirty, and the facilities are piss poor including the bedding. This hostel has no affiliation to New Zealanders and it shows. There is a SIGNIFICANTLY better hostel next door. I have been staying at this SIGNIFICANTLY better hostel for a few weeks now and suggest you do the same. A friend also got bed bug bites at Kiwi.

Great hostel but sadly they have been dealing with a couple of issues lately, namely an isolated norovirus epidemic in the hostel as well as bed bugs. Their response to these issues was to increase hygiene, which they do very well and I support. However it appears to be insufficient to get rid of the problem. The most annoying part was that the owner got extremely defensive when the issue was addressed, instead of being apologetic or understanding. A shame, because otherwise this is a 9+ star rating hostel.

wonderful place with amazing atmosphere and facilities. hoooowever, staff is not being transparent to their guests - there has been a virus going around for over a month and there are bed bugs in some rooms, but when asked about these matters you will hear different stories from different staff. they are not planning to close down to disinfect the place, instead they plan to keep the hostel open. quite disappointing

De rooftopbar is de Kiwi move: hangmatten, drankjes, zonsopgang- en zonsonderganguitzichten en op heldere dagen een grote Himalaya-achtergrond. Het is hier de sociale hoofdmotor, met ontbijt en avondhangs die het makkelijk maken om trekkingpartners, nieuwe vrienden of gewoon een zachte landing na Pokhara-logistiek te vinden. De hostel leunt sociaal maar niet full chaos. Er zijn verschillende gemeenschappelijke zithoeken, een yogaruimte, af en toe activiteiten zoals een momo-kookles, en staff die kan helpen met treks, bussen, dagtrips, gear rental en lokaal advies. Namen als Bipsy, Maya, Pawan, Prem, Arjun en Madan vallen op als deel van de persoonlijkheid van de plek, vooral rond de bar, receptie en trekkinghulp. Kamers zijn meestal schoon en comfortabel, met warme douches, lockers of opslag, keycard access in sommige dorms en zowel dorm- als privéopties. Gratis ontbijt is een echt deel van het ritme, al is het simpel. De locatie is handig voor Lakeside, het meer, winkels, markten en restaurants, en lijkt toch genoeg weggestopt voor een kalmere Pokhara-basis.
Signalen om te checken
- Sommige dorms kunnen heet, benauwd of krap worden, vooral grotere kamers, en ventilatoren of laders werken mogelijk niet altijd betrouwbaar.
- Ontbijt kan traag, vrij simpel en beperkt voor vegan opties zijn.
- Wasserette is een zwak punt: het kan duur zijn, en er zijn problemen met verwisselde, stinkende, vochtige of beschadigde kleding.
- Er staan ernstige hygiënewaarschuwingen in de geschiedenis, waaronder bedbugs gemeld in de 8-persoonsdorm in mei 2025 en maagvirus- of virusproblemen in 2023 en maart 2025.
- Een klein aantal incidenten gaat over grof gedrag van de eigenaar, intimidatie, privacyproblemen in een privékamer en vermeend racistisch taalgebruik.
