The hostel room is terrible. It is extremely moldy, and the pillows are black. We couldn’t sleep there, so we ended up sleeping on the beach and left the next day, even though we had paid for another night. In addition, the staff reacted very unfriendly when other guests asked to change their pillows, and they seemed annoyed when they asked us why we had slept outside.

My friend and I were surprised by the lack of flexibility of the staff who even proved unpleasant when we asked if it was possible to sleep on beds downstairs (I still want to remind that plenty of beds were available, and that another person in the same situation had the right to change beds) As for the electrical outlets they work once in two AND take 40 years to charge (according to the staff, WE were the problem mdrrrr)
This hostel is such a rip off. They put service charge on top of a hostel family curry night? Dude behind the desk isn't helpful. There's no vibe or hostel activities, they're just mainly focused on the cafe aspect. Stayed in AC and non A/C, both sleepless nights due to the noise. Non AC dorm is so overpriced and shower is outside where u have to walk passed group of sri lankan men to get to room which is intimidating as a woman.
I was disappointed by this hostel, not that clean, would need a bit or refreshing. There is lockers in the dorm for each bed but other than that anyone can get in the dorm as there is no key. But it’s mainly the noise of the road and around the hostel that is really loud, plus the constant noise of the vent. There is no possibilities to have tap water, coffee or tea like most of the hostel provide for free and the price of the bar is quite expensive for a bar’s hostel.
12€ für ein 12er dorm find ich etwas viel. Zudem die außen duschen nicht mal warm Wasser haben und der der einzige Aufenthalt Bereich neben dem Restaurant paar Sitzsäcke sind.
Die direkte Strandlage ist außergewöhnlich. Allerdings ist der Strand touristisch stark verbraucht und bis zum Wasser mit Liegen zugestellt. Die Stimmung, auch von den Mitarbeitern, ist leider arrogant angehaucht. Das familiäre Gefühl, wie ich es sonst in Sri Lanka hatte, ist Null aufgekommen. Die Preise für Übernachtung und vor allem Essen vor Ort sind lächerlich hoch. Die Zimmer haben eine gute Optik aber auf den zweiten Blick fehlt vieles - zb Sichtschutz im Badfenster.

And they are outside of the main building which means you always bring wet & sandy feet into the dorm. You cannot change in the room. The staff was not really friendly either. Didn’t feel comfortable there so we decided to cut the stay short and leave a day earlier than planned…
Sehr teuer für wenig Ausstattung. Es gibt weder Vorhänge, noch Steckdosen, eine Ablage oder Licht am Bett. Essen ebenfalls eher teuer. Mitarbeiter gemischt sehr nett und sehr reserviert. Guter Wasserdruck in der Dusche und warmes Wasser! Leider waren die Wände im Bad recht verschimmelt.
Very expensive for a small equipment. there are no curtains, no outlets, no drawer or light on the bed. food is also quite expensive. staff mix very neat and very reserved. good water pressure in the shower and hot water! unfortunately the walls in the bathroom were completely moldy.
Didn’t like the hostel. The only good thing about it was the location. Seemed like the people working here were getting with the tourists, loud music until after 12PM, no real AC in the rooms and just weird vibes.
Staff were rude and unhelpful snatching money and not providing change would not recommend at all.

Stayed here for only one night when heading back home. The decor at the restaurant is amazing and even the room (i stayed in a private ensuite) has been meticulously planned with a thing for finer details. Had an awesome time playing beach volleyball and carom at the property. Would love to come again and stay longer.
Uns hat es bei Steffi' Mandala sehr gefallen. Wir hatten ein privates Zimmer mit Blick auf das Meer. Für uns war es perfekt, um im Urlaub und im Land anzukommen. Da gab es so leckeres Essen, man konnte sich immer gefiltertes Wasser abfüllen und der Strand war direkt vor der Nase. Dank der Mitarbeitenden war dort eine schön entspannte Atmosphäre. Uns hat es so sehr gefallen, dass wir am Ende der Reise nochmal dahin wollten, es aber wegen Zeitmangel doch nicht machen konnten.
We really liked Steffi' Mandala. We had a private room with sea view. For us it was perfect for arriving on holiday and in the country. There was such delicious food, you could always fill up on filtered water and the beach was right in front of your nose. Thanks to the staff there was a nice relaxed atmosphere. We liked it so much that at the end of the trip we wanted to go there again but couldn't because of lack of time.
Das beste Hostel in dem ich bis jetzt war, die Zimmer sind einfach gehalten aber sauber! Aber am besten ist der Außenbereich, denn der ist direkt am Strand und auch der Ort an sich ist total schön Nette Cafés in der Nähe und ein toller Strand
The best hostel I've been to so far, the rooms are kept simple but clean! but the best is the outdoor area, because it's right on the beach and also the place itself is totally beautiful nice cafes nearby and a great beach
It‘s such a nice and kind place! It’s so nice that they are also open offseason, when we were there. They had Comfy beds and really nice people, tasty coffe and food and a really chill communal space. We really loved it and felt very comfortable! Thank u for everything ❤️❤️
Der beste Aufenthalt meiner Sri Lanka Reise. Super super nettes Personal und richtig schöne Hostel “Anlage”, dazu auch noch sehr leckeres Essen und direkt am Meer!!! Ich würde immer wieder zurückkommen!!

Im Zimmer hat es leider nach Schimmel gerochen, dafür war der Beach Bereich sonst sehr schön und das Personal sehr freundlich
The room smelled of Schimmel, but the beach area was otherwise very nice and the staff was very friendly.
Cool and calm place to chill and relax
Decent hostel right on the beach, about 30 minutes walk to turtle beach. There were ants all over the room. The aircon only comes on between 9pm-8am, just FYI. So it was unbearably hot and humid in the room. Beds were comfy. No wifi in the rooms, and it was pretty weak down by the restaurant. Beautifully decorated. Staff was attentive. Plenty of good restaurants nearby.
Just some constructive feedback: install hooks in the bathroom or shelves to put clothes on to stop the from getting wet. Add a bath mat outside the bathroom as the whole bathroom gets wet from the shower. The toilet lid wouldn’t stay up either which was annoying. I had a bikini stolen from the drying rack on the first floor, so just be aware. The restaurant only accepts cash, however the menu looked great. Great, beach front with a good vibe however!
It was definitely a really nice hostel, right on the beach! Perfect for relaxing! The staff were really friendly. It was just a a bit sad that, for the price, Wi-Fi was only available in certain areas, and we were kicked out of the restaurant area so early in the evening since there was no other common area. Other than that, it was really great!
I couldn’t recommend this hostel more. The location is perfect, the rooms are clean, the food is good and the staff is so friendly and helpful. When I got sick Ahaz went with me to the doctor and made sure I was all good!

Wunderschönes Hostel direkt am Meer mit unfassbar leckerem Essen und Strandliegen die man benutzen kann. Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr nett und alles war super sauber wirklich toll!!

Sehr schönes Hostel, mit Beach Bar direkt am Strand und Sonnenliegen. Es ist ein gutes Hostel um andere kennen zu lernen. In der Nähe gibt es kleine Shops und Restaurants. Eine Sache hat mir leider nicht gefallen,das Badezimmer und Zimmer wurde während meines drei tägigen Aufenthalts nicht gereinigt.
Very nice hostel, with beach bar directly on the beach and sun loungers. it is a good hostel to get to know others. nearby there are small shops and restaurants. one thing i unfortunately did not like, the bathroom and room were not cleaned during my three day stay.
After my flight got cancelled I was stranded in Hikkaduwa for a week. Steffi’s soon became a second home. It’s right on the beach, the food is amazing and rooms comfortable. But what really made the difference is the incredibly kind staff. If I make it back to Sri Lanka, will definitely stay here again.
Ich habe diese Unterkunft sehr geliebt. Die Lage ist einfach ein Traum. Sie liegt direkt am Strand und man hat kostenlos Sonnenliegen dazu. Ich habe im female dorm geschlafen und es war super das man direkt ein Badezimmer dabei hat. Das Restaurant ist auch einfach super. Bei meinem Aufenthalt waren viele deutsche da.
I really liked this accommodation. The location is just a dream. It is right on the beach and you have free sun beds. I slept in the women's dorm and it was great that you have a bathroom directly with it. The restaurant is also just great. There were a lot of Germans there during my stay.
J’ai passé un super séjour ici. La cadre est juste trop bien. Le personnel est très aidant et toujours là si vous avez besoin Super hostel

Was für manche eventuell relevant ist: Ich war in einem shared room (4 Personen) und wenn man im Stockbett oben liegt und etwas anfällig bei nächtlicher Klimaanlage ist, muss man entweder schwitzen oder man hat Pech. Die AC ist etwa 1m entfernt und nur etwas erhöht, sodass sie direkt über den Kopf und den gesamten Körper entlang zieht. Die andere Person im oberen Bett lag quer mit dem Kopf direkt vor/unter der AC. Hier wären Vorhänge/neuere Betten mit erhöhtem Gestell eine Verbesserungs...
What may be relevant for some: I was in a shared room (4 persons) and if you are lying in the upper bunk and are somewhat vulnerable to nighttime air conditioning, you either have to sweat or you have a Pech hat. The AC is about 1m away and only slightly raised, so that it directly over the head and pulls along the entire body. The other person in the upper bunk lies with the head directly in front/under the AC. Here, curtains/new Beds with elevated Gestell would be an improvement idea.
