We realised on our second morning that there were bed bugs. Initially one of the staff tried to say it was our fault because we should have reported it on the first morning (we initially thought it was a mosquito issue) and implied we could have brought them in from elsewhere (nope!). They refused to give us a refund but we were given a voucher for one night’s stay in another Che hostel. They also did our laundry for free. We were offered a different room but didn’t feel comfortable so we moved hotels.

The outside and social areas of this hostel are lovely! However my mattress had (seemingly dead) bed bugs. The staff were very apologetic about it and offered me a new bed but it definitely put a dampener on my stay. Surely after a fumigation you should clean the mattresses? The 10 bed female only dorm was extremely spacious but almost to a fault: it was very echoey and due to its location beside reception it was very loud. My bunk was also really creaky every time I moved.

Pros: - cheap, even for a private room - safe for a solo female traveler - very kind and helpful staff - there are resident cats 😍 -amazing location, 10 min walk from plaza grande, paseo Montejo and 5 min from historic center (Santa Lucia park etc) - super easy to socialize with all the events and tours they host which are also pretty cheap. They also host dinner parties and such Cons - you get what you pay for. Not the cleanest hostel I have been - there is always some kind of smell in all the areas lol - I could not stop itching the whole time I was there. I had been in Yucatán for five days already and the itching started the night I got there. Not sure if there were bed bugs or not - extremely loud. One of the nights, (Christmas Eve) party went on until 3 am. I had a tour early in the morning and had to cancel it because I couldn’t get enough sleep - no freezer, only refrigerator

Vibe-Analyse
CHE Nomadas Merida liegt stark zentral für Merida, mit Restaurants, Bars, Touren und dem Zocalo in Laufweite. Der Poolhof ist der Haupthangout: Liegen, Hängematten, Außensitzplätze und ein Bar-Setup machen ihn zur offensichtlichen Hitze-Überlebenszone, besonders am Nachmittag. Das Dorm-Setup hat einige praktische Gewinne: große Betten, Privatsphäre-Vorhänge in mindestens manchen Dorms, Unterbett-Locker, Ablagen oder Sideboards an Etagenbetten, Steckdosenzugang, große Zimmer, 24-Stunden-Rezeption und zusätzliche Gepäcklocker nach dem Check-out. Es gibt auch Küche, Coworking-Space, Wäsche eventuell verfügbar, und Touren oder Hostelaktivitäten können laufen, auch wenn der Aktivitätsrhythmus uneinheitlich ist. Der Vibe ist etwas instabil. Es kann zum Leute kennenlernen und Feiern funktionieren, und die New-Year's-Funktion kam gut an, aber außerhalb der Trinkzeiten kann es auch ruhig, awkward oder franchise-flach wirken. Musik rund um Garten und Pool kann von morgens bis spät abends laut sein, also besser passend für Hitze, Poolzeit und low-commitment soziales Chaos als für tiefen Schlaf oder Remote Work.

- Sauberkeit ist ein wiederkehrender Schwachpunkt, besonders Badezimmer, Küche, Kühlschrank, Poolwasser und manche Dormböden.
- Bettwanzen sind in aktuellen Dorm-Erfahrungen aufgetaucht, also Matratzen vor dem Auspacken prüfen.
- Heißes Wasser und Duschdruck können unzuverlässig sein.
