We realised on our second morning that there were bed bugs. Initially one of the staff tried to say it was our fault because we should have reported it on the first morning (we initially thought it was a mosquito issue) and implied we could have brought them in from elsewhere (nope!). They refused to give us a refund but we were given a voucher for one night’s stay in another Che hostel. They also did our laundry for free. We were offered a different room but didn’t feel comfortable so we moved hotels.

The outside and social areas of this hostel are lovely! However my mattress had (seemingly dead) bed bugs. The staff were very apologetic about it and offered me a new bed but it definitely put a dampener on my stay. Surely after a fumigation you should clean the mattresses? The 10 bed female only dorm was extremely spacious but almost to a fault: it was very echoey and due to its location beside reception it was very loud. My bunk was also really creaky every time I moved.

Pros: - cheap, even for a private room - safe for a solo female traveler - very kind and helpful staff - there are resident cats 😍 -amazing location, 10 min walk from plaza grande, paseo Montejo and 5 min from historic center (Santa Lucia park etc) - super easy to socialize with all the events and tours they host which are also pretty cheap. They also host dinner parties and such Cons - you get what you pay for. Not the cleanest hostel I have been - there is always some kind of smell in all the areas lol - I could not stop itching the whole time I was there. I had been in Yucatán for five days already and the itching started the night I got there. Not sure if there were bed bugs or not - extremely loud. One of the nights, (Christmas Eve) party went on until 3 am. I had a tour early in the morning and had to cancel it because I couldn’t get enough sleep - no freezer, only refrigerator

CHE Nomadas Merida está en una ubicación central fuerte para Mérida, con restaurantes, bares, tours y el Zócalo a distancia caminable. El patio con piscina es el hangout principal: tumbonas, hamacas, asientos exteriores y una zona de bar lo convierten en la zona obvia de supervivencia al calor, especialmente por la tarde. La configuración de dormitorios tiene algunas victorias prácticas: camas grandes, cortinas de privacidad en al menos algunos dormitorios, taquillas bajo la cama, repisas o tableros laterales en literas, enchufes, habitaciones grandes, recepción 24 horas y taquillas extra para equipaje después del check-out. También hay cocina, coworking, puede haber lavandería y pueden correr tours o actividades del hostel, aunque el ritmo de actividades puede ser irregular. La vibra es un poco inestable. Puede funcionar para conocer gente y salir de fiesta, y la función de Año Nuevo salió bien, pero también puede sentirse tranquila, incómoda o plana de franquicia fuera de las horas de beber. La música alrededor del jardín y la piscina puede estar fuerte desde la mañana hasta tarde por la noche, así que encaja mejor para calor, piscina y caos social de bajo compromiso que para descanso profundo o trabajo remoto.

- La limpieza es un punto débil recurrente, especialmente baños, cocina, nevera, agua de la piscina y algunos suelos de dormitorios.
- Han aparecido chinches en experiencias recientes de dormitorio, así que revisa los colchones antes de desempacar.
- El agua caliente y la presión de la ducha pueden ser poco fiables.
- El ruido puede pasar desde la piscina, recepción, llegadas tardías y música matutina.
- El Wi-Fi puede no aguantar llamadas o trabajo remoto serio.
- Espera fricción de costes extra: comisiones de tarjeta, depósitos por toalla o manta, desayuno de pago, aparcamiento limitado y precios más altos en el bar pueden aplicar.
- El equipo de cocina puede estar gastado, sucio o ser incómodo cuando el espacio está lleno.
- Algunas habitaciones privadas y dormitorios han tenido humedad, mala ventilación, mosquitos, seguridad débil o problemas de mantenimiento.
