Breakfast was really good in a really good setting. I think they include the first night's breakfast but not all nights. The rooftop is really nice. Things I did not like: This review is only for the private rooms. I can't comment for the dorms. There were so many things to not like! 1. The area is really really dangerous. I am sorry that the hotel can't do much about this but this is a serious problem. 2. The room is really basic. For the same price, you can get a better place in a better neighborhood. 3. Sometimes, the staff and owner are not professional. One day, they just announced that they can't serve breakfast on time because everyone got too drunk for the owner's birthday the previous night. 4. The towels they provided were literally rags. They are like the ones I use to clean my car. They were tattered and full of holes and looked like it was a piece of a curtain. I have pictures. 5. The toilet seats were broken, the flush was not working. 6. The bar tender sold us early bird pricing for a cocktail (passionfruit gin). When we went to the bar to redeem our drink, we got a rum coke. I asked him why he sold us a different drink and he just shrugged. 7. Our bedsheets and pillows had little red stains on them, which looked like bed bug stains. 8. Our pillow was not changed and we literally had the previous guests goo on them. I am tired of typing but there were just too many things wrong at this hostel. (I was one of their first customers when they opened in 2014 or so. I used to love this place. But man, they have gone downhill)

Vibe Analysis
Community Hostel’s rooftop is the main event: a high-up bar and restaurant with big Historic Centre views, breakfast/brunch energy, craft IPAs, hearty meals, and regular social nights. Salsa, karaoke, games, happy hour, family dinners, and walking tours give the place a real meet-people engine without making it feel like a giant chain hostel. The dorm setup can be seriously comfortable, with pod-style beds, curtains, shelves, lockers, charging space, cozy duvets, and enough privacy to disappear when the social battery hits zero. Rooms and bathrooms are generally clean, and the shared spaces stretch beyond the basics: kitchen, lounge areas, a cinema or TV room, coworking-style corners, and a terrace that works for both city-gazing and dinner plans. Food is a bigger deal here than at a typical hostel. The rooftop restaurant gets a lot of love for breakfasts, community dinner, big portions, local-style dishes, guacamole toast, shakshuka, and good-value meals, though pricing and service can vary. Staff energy is usually warm and hands-on, with names like Fanny, Israel, Emi, Eli, Gaby, Diego, Luis, and Rasu tied to cleaning, hosting, tours, salsa, and general problem-solving. The location is central and practical for Quito’s old town, the main square, public transport, and the Mercado Central right outside. That same market-side setting brings the tradeoff: street noise starts early, the area can feel rough after dark, and taxis or Uber are the smarter night move.
