49 Hostel

Really good location, right next to Bloor Younge station and Sherbourne station for the underground. 24 hour McDonalds right outside the front door. 24 hour access to the property was brilliant and the two guys working on the desk were top class. Shoutout to Bossman who was always happy to help, he’s not shouting he’s just Hungarian. Possible bed bugs but also maybe just mosquito bites.

Location Staff was not very knowledgeable and at times rude and there were multiple issues with my reservation. All the light bulbs were missing from the room except for an old dusty floor lamp. Cleaning staff came into the room while I was resting and I noticed she re-folded the used blanket and put it back in the bed for a new guest. I asked her if they wash those and she simply responded "NO" . I said "what about bed bugs?" and she just shrugged. Unfortunately the great location does not make up for ALL of the inconveniences and health risks. I wasn't expecting 5 stars, but at least clean, comfortable and pleasant would have been nice.

Hostel was located in a great location. Walking distance to high end shops on Bloor Street, the ROM, and the University of Toronto. It was close to a metro stop, Cabbage Town and there were a lot of local amenities in the area such as grocery stores, pharmacies, laundromats. Name of the hostel on google maps and on the building at the listed address is All Days Hostel, not Nox hostel, this led to some confusion when we arrived. Had trouble contacting reception for check in, they were unable to hear us when we used the red phone at the door and didn't buzz us in. One of the residents staying at the hostel ended up letting us in. On the first night of what was supposed to be a two night stay, my sister and I were attacked by what were according to the consultant at the pharmacy across the street probably bed bugs. I did not sleep a wink due to constant itching. We ended up checking out after one night. We booked a room at the Hotel next door, then headed to the laundromat down the street and threw all of our cloths into a dryer to blast them on high heat in order to kill any bed bugs we may have picked up. Later on we ironed all our cloths and sprayed them with bed bug spray. The Hotel across the street was great, and I was able to get some sleep. I looked up All Days Hostel reviews on line and saw that other people were complaining of bug bites as well. However, if you search under Nox hostel, these reviews do not appear.

A shame about our bed bug experience, because every part of the hostel was otherwise excellent. Nice staff, fantastic location, good value. Given that the bed bugs didn’t get us immediately I’d wager it was just bad luck with a previous or neighboring guest The last two nights we were hit with a moderately severe amount of bed bug bites and had to fully sanitize and decontaminate all our belongings once we returned home

Absolutely horrible experience. Scam, bed bugs, rude accusations. We booked with 49 Hostel but upon arrival were told that the building had a leak. They moved us to the "sister property" All Days Hostel. Upon payment the person at the counter tried to scam me for a cash payment saying I had booked a cash-only rate and it would say that in the booking confirmation. I didn't and it did not say that, so I could thankfully pay with card and get some protection against their malicient practices. The room we were given was loud, electricity was cut off in the neighborhood at 9pm that day. Yet, most importantly the bed had BED BUGS. I left immediately before spending a single with them. Once bringing that to their attention the next morning and politely asking for a refund I was rudely accused of bringing the bed bugs. Side-note: A friend from Toronto mentioned that there are very few bad areas in town but this would be one of them - so the proximity to the train is the only asset of this.
