Safestay Athens Monastiraki

Een hostel met privé kamers en dorms. Ik zelf had een privé kamer die aan de overkant van de straat zit. Mijn kamer was op de begane grond. De kamer is simpel, heeft een eigen badkamer met douche, toilet en een tweepersoonsbed. Hoewel niet mega schoon(de schimmel zit in de naden van de badkamer en vermoedelijk bedwantsen) is het verder prima en werden elke dag de prullenbakjes geleegd. Het enige grote nadeel is dat het enorm gehorig is door het enkele glas. Het lijkt net alsof er helemaal geen glas in zit want je hoort echt alles door de hele straat. Het heeft me zeker twee nachten echt wakker gehouden door dronken mensen of een roggelende buurman die de hele nacht buiten staat. Het ontbijt van het hostel bevindt zich op het dak. Het is simpel en erg basis maar het handig dat het wordt aangeboden als je optijd weg wil. Je hebt wel echt een prachtig uitzicht op het pantheon zittende in de zon. Prima dus als hostel maar ruimte voor verbetering

BED BUGS - STAY AWAY! I stayed in room 201, where bedbugs were found – confirmed by the receptionist on the day we checked out. Despite this, the room was rented out to new guests the very same day, without any action being taken. The hostel refers to a monthly, superficial inspection for bedbugs. If no bedbugs are found during that routine check, no further measures are taken – even when the receptionist himselfe saw the bedbugs, and I provided both photo and video evidence of the insects crawling on the wall. The management completely ignores this. This practice clearly shows that the management at Safestay Monasterraki does not care about guests’ health, the risk of bedbug bites, or the possibility of guests bringing bedbugs home. It is both irresponsible and deeply disrespectful. The management also claims that I was offered to cancel the second night and receive a refund for the first – this is simply untrue. Had that offer been made, I would have left immediately after the first night. We already suspected bedbugs after the first night but had no proof until after the second. Since then, management has blocked my phone number and ignored all my emails. In addition, the room was in very poor condition: Dirty, with visible blood stains Found a used earplug on the floor No furniture to place luggage on (increasing the risk of bedbugs) Very noisy and creaky beds No fridge – inconvenient in hot weather In short: Dirty, unprofessional, and unsafe. Stay far away. PS! I see that Safestay Monasterraki often responds to earlier bedbug reviews by claiming that the insects may have come from public transport. That is simply not true. We saw bedbugs crawling inside the room, and your own receptionist later confirmed by email that bedbugs were found in the room. Safestay Monasterraki is therefore not being truthful.

Be careful with this place. I am pretty sure I got scabies there. At first I thought it was bed bugs, they didn’t find anything in the room. I talked to a doctor from my country and show the pictures of my skin. The hostel gave me free laundry for the experience! But they are not very clean and there is a lot of people. I’ve never had that in my life, after 5 years traveling, seriously….😢

I was in room 501 and got bedbugs!!!! Be careful if you're staying there and especially in that room. Very unfortunate because the hostel itself was pretty nice, with an amazing location. The rooftop bar and staff were lovely. But not very clean and I do always check for bedbugs so this was a very nasty surprise :(

I had a bed bug in Room 302 about a week ago. Would avoid that hostel unless they can guarantee that your room is free of bed bugs. It's a shame, everything else was fine.

Absolute disaster! Bedbugs, bedbugs, bedbugs I’ve never experienced anything this bad before. We reported it multiple times, and all they did was change the sheets and spray some product around completely unprofessional! Bedbugs were found on three separate days. This is utterly unacceptable and beyond disgusting!

A fuir !!! On a trouvé des punaises de lit dans notre chambre et c’est un vrai enfer pour s’en débarrasser. En plus de ça y’a pas de cuisine, les matelas sont hyper inconfortables et les lits grincent

The cleanliness of the room/ bed should be improved a lot. I found a few bed bugs on the bed . That's so annoying.

Attention c'est plein de punaises de lit je ne suis pas le seul à avoir été contaminé, la réception à l'air au courant, ils m'ont remboursé une nuit sur trois, c'est mieux que rien...

I felt like I should rate this place 10/10 before I realized I got bedbugs bites from there. I realized when I get back home . I stayed there three nights and the last day, I noticed some rashes on my hands and I just thought it as mosquito bites ( I underestimated the risk of bedbugs as the clothing for bed are all white colored) but later I found out many rashes on chest and legs. I wear long sleeve winter pajamas and there’s no way for mosquito bites on chest. Actually the second day, I saw blood stains on my bedsheets and blanket cover and requested to change but they didn’t. Still I rate this place 10/10 for location as every must visit places and great restaurants are within walking distance from the hostel. But for cleanliness and service, I would just give zero because of bed bugs.

The hostel has bed bugs and after we informed them, they really didn't care at all.

Stunning view and staff were alright nice area but there were bedbugs and they wouldn’t give us a refund, there was a dodgy guy in our room who was sharing his bed with a woman every night and kept walking over to our stuff and when we would look up he walked away I know this isn’t the hostels fault but they should’ve at least noticed he was breaking the rules

This hostel has bed bugs! I was only there for a night and am covered in bites.

DO NOT STAY HERE! There are BED BUGS and extremely rude staff.I found the shell just 10 minutes of checking in. I asked the reception guy to switch my bed, but he said it was full, and only offered me another sheet. When I asked to cancel my stay, he said he couldn’t refund me because it was MY problem.He claimed they spray every week, so it couldn’t be bed bugs. After that I found a live bug behind of the curtain. He didn’t apologize, just directed me to email the manager, who never responded

One of the people I was traveling with got bed bug bites from this hostel.

I stayed there for four nights; the shower didn't work, and bed bugs were in a private suite. There was no refund. I don't recommend staying here.

BED BUGS!!!!! The Staff is not friendly, the room and bed were not clean when arrived, no fresh air in the room because the window is closed and the locker door was broken! BED BUGS again!!

CONS: unfortunately, bedbugs. The staff were mostly kind about it and allowed me to change rooms/ wash my clothes. While bedbugs is not always the fault of the hostel, I felt that the issue was not taken very seriously. I also did not appreciate being told it loooked like “mosquito bites” when I had over 50 painful, itchy bites across my tummy/ back. The hotel is in a good location but the rooms are in a terrible condition. A fungus on the wall, dust everywhere, the ventilation grille is dusty and the air conditioning does not work. And the worst are the bed bugs in room 303!!! we spent 20 days in this hostel and it was an unpleasant feeling, the service does nothing about the fact that bedbugs were found in the room.
