JO&JOE Paris - Gentilly

Just wanted to leave a review to let people know there was bed bugs! I work up with 20 bites :( the hostel staff was so nice and helpful about it though, changed my rooms immediately and gave me free laundry and towels and were super apologetic. Not the hostels fault but just wanted to warn others in case they were thinking of staying there right now!

I stayed here with my family (2 adults, 3 kids in 5pers-room) for 4 nights Jan 21-25. The first night we were in room 414, but after a night of barely getting any sleep due to heat, lack of air and the room smelling terrible, we realized the AC and ventilation wasn’t working which made the room unbearable to be in. We brought it up with the guy in the reception the following afternoon and he was very nice and helpful and got us a new room. Other than that the room was fine, the cleaning wasn’t great but it could have been worse. The windows in this room also don’t open which of course made the ventilation issue even worse. Night 2-4 we stayed in room 506 where the AC worked well and the air quality was MUCH better. Here the cleaning was also poorly done. After having read the reviews after the first night, we checked this room for bed bugs (didn’t see any!) and found lots of dirt and trash under the mattresses, under one some type of food. By some of the beds there was also trash (peanuts and chips) on the bedsides next to the mattresses. The drain in the shower was also clogged so the water barely ran down, we weren’t able to take a full shower during our stay. The rest of the room is fine, it doesn’t feel clean but it doesn’t feel super dirty either. In this room the windows can be opened. The breakfast was fine, pretty basic breakfast buffet. Only minus was that there were no gluten free options the day we were there and most of the breakfast was bread-based. We ended up buying breakfast out the rest of the trip. The level of service varied, some employees are super nice and helpful, others very nonchalant and hardly acknowledge someone is in front of them. The location is good if you want to save some money by not staying in the center. The RAR station is only 3min walk away, very easy to get to and from the city center! We didn’t spend much time in the common areas so can’t say much about them, but our youngest absolutely loved the foosball table!

The hostel is literally 2 minutes walk from the train station (which takes 20 minutes to the city center; 5 stops). If it’s night time, there is a bus that also takes you to the station in 20 minutes which is a ten minute walk from the hostel. Reading the reviews, I thought there might be a problem with hygiene, cleanliness of the toilet or bedbugs. I had no problems, in fact, everything was clean enough. There was always toilet paper, I never waited for a shower, always warm water and never a dirty toilet or shower. Cozy and modern room. As for the single cabin, it is exactly what it should be. A separate bed with a door in a multi-bed room, not a single room, which I see some people expect. If you have a problem hearing someone or being heard by someone, then this is not for you. Kudos to the security guards and the girl at the reception for their smile and friendliness. The rooftop terrace is great. I would prefer that the indoor area remained open at night for smokers, at least if it is not open for detention. It looks a bit sleazy when we smoke outside. Also, the kitchen should be open all night. There are things that some people consume or should consume at night, and they need to be kept in the refrigerator. Some people come home at night and would like to maybe heat something up, eat. Everything else - great. I will be happy to come back.

TL;DR: bed bugs and data leaks to scammers. Stayed for 1 night, party of 3, in a private room. After booking, we got a sketchy whatsapp message asking for payment information with a link. Reached out to the hotel, who said it was a scam. The scammers knew we were staying in this hotel, had our names and the dates of our stay. This place clearly has data protection issues. The bed also had bed bugs. I found one on my pillow in the morning and left the hotel covered in bites. The room was extremely dark. There are only individual reading lights in the bunks (nothing to illuminate the actual room) so it's impossible to see anything if you arrive after dark. Despite the freezing temperatures outside, the room was extremely hot; expect to sweat all throughout the night if you end up in a top bunk. Don't get tricked by the price, location or the pretty bar. It's not worth the risk.

The stay overall is okay. Everything was as in the pictures but the problem is that I think there are some bed bugs (or fleas) because the first night I woke up with bites in my arms and face, but it was only me, not my friends. I don’t understand why only me, because I think all was kinda clean (the bed and all that stuff), even tho there were some snacks bags behind the wall.

THERE ARE BED BUGS IN THIS HOSTEL!!! When I told the front of the house staff and even showed them video evidence of the bed bug I killed on my phone, they were so non-chalant about it, they didn't offer to change my beddings or room, luckily it was my last night there. I feel there needs to be customer service training or retraining for the staff honestly.

We went to this hostel for school and found the room somewhat dirty (sheets etc). Many of my friends from school found (what we thought to be) bedbugs in multiple rooms. We are very stressed out about the situation and will have to take precautions at home whether or not we have symptoms, just to be sure. I feel bad writing a bad review, but this was stressful and unsettling.

My stay at this hostel was a nightmare. The rooms were unbearably hot, with no AC and zero ventilation—it felt like sleeping in a sauna. The lack of airflow made it hard to breathe, resulting in a very uncomfortable night, not a single one of us slept in the room because of it. To make matters worse, the shower didn’t drain properly, leading to constant overflowing. Basic amenities were completely missing; there were no towels provided—not even a hand towel—and no hand soap in the bathrooms. As if that wasn't enough, one of my friends suffered bed bug bites in his room. Overall, while the hostel has potential, the lack of basic amenities and the uncomfortable room conditions made for a very disappointing stay. I hope management takes these issues seriously and makes the necessary improvements for future guests.

I had a lot of bedbugs! So this might be a big problem if you don't take care. Location, staff and rooms are good enough. The kitchen needs more tools, to cook (like a stove) and to clean.

The stay was not great at all. Check in and getting the room were simple but once we came into the rooms the Problems started. The Room was dirty with garbage everywhere. Other rooms of our colleges had Bed bugs alive and dead one's. Once this issue was reported they took ages to do anything. It should be something normal to clean the room properly but they failed this simple Task. I'd not recommend coming here as they don't clean nor care about your issues.

BED BUGS BED BUGS BED BUGS. STAY HERE AT YOUR OWN PERIL AND RISK. Choosing a place to stay for holidays should be a fun experience, one chooses a place to stay and expects to feel a sense of safety and security. But little did I know that being assaulted by bed bugs would be the start of my holiday. Not only was the "room" (and I am using that word very very loosely here), clearly dirty and is literally a box below another box. Just boxes stacked on top of one another, filled with bed bugs. I cancelled my entire stay after waking up with my body covered in blistering bites, shaken by the experience, I promptly showed the staff at the reception, whose reaction I would describe as "slightly bemused" at best. They simply shrugged as if this was a common occurrence and casually pointed to an e-mail scotched behind their computer screen, to e-mail their manager. There is only one positive thing and that is that after requesting it, I was fully refunded.

We found bedbugs in our room. The reception staff were nice and helped us get a new room. The assistant manager, however, did not believe us and did not seem to take the issue seriously. Avoid!

first night i woke up to 4 bed bugs crawling over me. switched rooms and thankfully didn’t have the problem again however looking at these reviews it appears that bed bugs are pretty common here

i found bedbugs in my bed, even after being in there for only an hour. i can understand that that isn’t necessarily from the staff, but when i mentioned it, they said they don’t “usually” see them in that space. which after my experience, did make me worry that it was common in other areas. there were even eggs on the walls that i tried wiping off. i woke up covered in bites despite being moved to another space, which was an issue in itself. the staff were kind, and worked swiftly, which is the only reason i didn’t give this place a 1. however the first room they moved me to already had someone in it and i walked in on them. the last room they gave me was fine, although it should probably still be checked with the bites i have. i now have to ensure all of my items i brought with me are properly disinfected to avoid spread in my own space. if you go here, it is nice, but please just be cautious.

A place with potential due to its location, but disappointing in many ways. I’m an experienced traveler and have stayed in dozens of hostels across Asia, India, and South America. Rarely have I encountered such low levels of hygiene. I had a "private room"—essentially a boiling hot cubicle that’s barely accessible. Boiling, because despite the listing stating there's air conditioning, the minimum temperature is set at 26°C—meaning they basically don’t turn it on. Plus, the air doesn’t circulate directly in the room, but only in the common area outside: you’ll be roasting. The beds are not beds. They're made of some leather-like material that makes the experience even worse. They don’t breathe, so you’ll sweat even more. Cleanliness is one of the worst aspects of this hostel. In my room, I found: hair, fingernails on the bed, body hair in the comforter, and dried mucus on the wooden surfaces. The kitchen is shockingly filthy. The bathrooms too—I never saw anyone cleaning them. The overall atmosphere is impersonal and uninspiring. ----------------------- Reply: Top priority? And how do you express it? By leaving nails, boogers, hair, and bedbugs in the rooms and beds? Do you show your care by not cleaning the bathrooms? By never cleaning the kitchen? Or do you just want to leave a comment to try to clean up your reputation? Friends, the customer comes before everything, even if you’re in Paris. Even if, to you, we’re just paying numbers. We are people!!!!!

Stayed for two nights with a tour group in a 6 person room. Woke up with BEDBUG bites!!! Also when we checked in our shower room had a large puddle of water outside the shower stall we slipped and almost fell in. Shower fully flooded and did not drain at all, we told the front desk staff who directed us to use the communal showers and said it would be fixed, it was not fixed or even mopped, and we spent two days with a flooded shower. Many of the communal showers did not drain properly either. There is only one washer and dryer, you have to pre buy tokens 5 and 3 euro, but unlikely you’ll have the chance to actually use them. Also the room with the washer is supposed to open at 7am and at 7:30 when I tried to do some washing it was still locked. AC also did not work in our room, overall was quite dark and dirty… do NOT recommend!

I had a great experience for 2 nights. Public transportation is only a few minutes walk which is great. To see the Eiffel Tower is only 30 minutes away. Since it’s near the high way it can be loud but the hostel is great. Not that loud during the night. The rooms aren’t that clean and I’m really afraid bedbugs and stuff: So hopefully in the future housekeeping can do that better. Considering the price it’s ok.

IT’S BEEN EVEN PASSED 3WORKING DAYS YOU IGNORE MY EMAIL AND I’M KEEP STRESSING OUT BECAUSE OF THE ONLY 14EURO. REFUNDING 14EURO IS NOT DIFFICULT AT ALL. I SENT MY CARD DETAIL AS YOU ASKED AND AT YOU HAVE TO CHECK MY EMAIL AND REPLY AT LEAST. THIS HOTEL NEVER PICK THE PHONE CALL UP. SO AWFUL. SO FRUSTRATING. I’ve stayed here for 3days in 4 beds room 608. and it was okay. The bedroom was clean and no bed bugs. It was comfortable. Toilet and bathroom were also clean. But they charged me service fee 10euro additionally, and I needed to pay for locker. When I pay it at the first time, they charge me 14euro, after that they told me again my card was not work and made me pay 9 euro more. Now I confuse what is the right fee and they obviously double charge it for me, and I send email about requesting refund some of it but they still do not reply yet. I hope jo&joe gentilly check my email as soon as possible and let me know what’s going on my payment.

The place looked really good but unfortunately the bedbugs did bite! We booked a room with 5 beds and all 5 people had bites as well as myself waking up with them on my chest. Not a place I will be going back to. Left at 7am as we didn't want to be in the room any longer. The place responded by saying they found no evidence of bedbugs! As you can see from the pic there is evidence! Stay here at your own risk.

I’m a bit torn on how to rate this hostel. First we got overcharged on tourist tax which wasn’t nice. Besides mold on the shower ceiling our first room was really good. But on the second night we had a bunch of bed bugs and got bites. I don’t know how much the hostel is at fault for this, because maybe a guest brought them in. The hostel handled this situation really well and we were pleased with the arrangements they made. Our second room did not have bedbugs and was okay, besides some small things like damaged bathroom doors. But that wasn’t much of a bother. We booked this hostel because of the advertised kitchen where you can see a stove on the pictures. Sadly that isn’t the case and the kitchen only contained a kettle and a microwave, which both were really dirty. On the last day we booked the breakfast buffet but in our opinion 10€ pp was a bit too much for this. But overall this hostel is okay and the location was good

Great place to use as a base when visiting Paris! I stayed in a private cabin room with shared bathroom. It wasn’t the cleanest so I gave everything a wipe over with an antibacterial wipe bought at the franprix round the corner. I was afraid of bedbugs since there was a few reviews saying they got bitten but I didn’t see any at all in my bed. (Possibly more common in the shared rooms?) fab location, easy to get RER B from Charles de Gaulle station and then back into central Paris. Easy check in, good facilities and helpful staff! Also a lovely boulangerie just down the street on the way to the station!

Français suit: In short - BEDBUGS, dust, dirt and noise from the adjacent freeway. Avoid at all cost! The owners of this place really need to get their act together, because I have yet to see a dirtier hostel than this. Upon arrival to my dorm room, I decided to do a quick check of the bed which already seemed really weird with its super hard airtight cover (one must get really sweaty after sleeping on it). I pull down the cover and immediately I see a big dead bedbug (see picture). I went to the reception and was given my money back and a "120€/night" private room for free instead. I knew I should've just left right away, but was really tired and wanted to lay down asap, so I agreed. Upon arrival to the room, I find a silverfish bug crawling on the mattress. Huge clumps of dust and an empty bottle under the bed and a thick layer of dust in virtually all the corners of the room (see pictures & videos) --------- En gros: PUNAISES DE LIT, poussière, saleté et bruit du périf juste à côté. Évitez à tout prix ! J'espère que les propriétaires de cet établissement vont au moins augmenter le budget de la nettoyage, parce que c'est une catastrophe. Dès mon arrivée dans la chambre d'hôte, je remarque que les protecteurs de matelas sont hyper épaisses et ont l'air imperméables (donc on doit avoir très chaud sur le dos si on dort dessus). Je remarque qu'il y a pas mal de poussière autour, donc je décide d'enlever le protecteur et tout de suite je vois une grande punaise morte (voir l'image). Je rends à la réception et le manager me rembourse et propose une chambre "120€/nuit" gratuitement. Je savais que la meilleure décision serait de partir de l'établissement, mais j'étais très fatigué, donc je l'ai pris. J'arrive dans la chambre et je remarque toute de suite la poussière presque partout autour. J'enlève les draps du matelas et je vois un poisson d'argent ramper dessus (voir photos et vidéo). Finalement, je retourne le lit et trouve des énormes chatons de la poussière ainsi qu'une bouteille vide.

Dont come here. You’ll get bitten by bedbugs and might even spread bed bugs when you go home. Super dirty. When I arrived another customer was already complaining about how dirty their room was. Horrible.

The worst hotel/hostel I have ever stayed at. Full of bed bugs. Check below the mattress and you will find many dead bugs and many personal stuff. We booked many rooms as a group and most of the rooms had same problem, bedbugs jumping over our bodies. When you do not give people a towel to take shower and do not clean the room properly this situation is mostly expected. Now we have to go home with bedbugs in our suitcases!!!

Hotel full of bedbugs asked the desk to give me back my money and got offered another room. No money back. After New Year’s Eve didn’t find a bed to sleep had to pass the night in the train station

I had a 2 day stay in this hostel. Unfortunately, I had an unpleasant experience following the presence of bedbugs on the first night of my stay. As a result, I was stung and couldn't sleep all night. The staff provided me with an email from customer service to which I sent 2 emails with no response. J'ai passé un séjour de 2 jours dans cette auberge. Malheureusement, j'ai eu une désagréable expérience suite à la présence de punaises de lit dès la première nuit de mon séjour. Par conséquent, j'ai été piqué et je n'ai pas pu dormir de la nuit. Le staff m'a fourni un mail du service client auquel j'ai envoyé 2 mails sans réponse.

BED BUGS Do not come here, they have bed bugs. My sheets had a dead bed bug on it when I arrived, which made me nervous that they don't wash their sheets properly between guests. That fear was realised when I woke up to a dozen bites and a very much alive bed bug crawling next to me. Receptionist was not very sympathetic. I understand that bed bugs are common right now, but clearly there are proper health protocols that can be done, like thoroughly washing sheets, that can reduce the chance of them.

Possibly the worst hostel I have ever visited. Bed bugs in my bed and closet, multiple other residents claimed to have bed bugs. The hostel made no effort to exterminate them, and did not offer a refund. They staff were not helpful, and I was promised a refund by multiple staff members but this has not happened. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I went on a group trip just this week with a bunch of solo travelers, and we stayed in the bunk bed rooms for five. My fellow travelers had bed bugs found in their rooms and bites over their bodies. I haven’t seen any reviews mentioning this yet, and I think it’s very important to note. It was pretty dirty overall.

My stay was good I just wasn’t pleased with finding a bed bug in my room at the end of my stay, I wasn’t even offered a refund no person should risk bringing this home to their families m
