The place wasn’t clean, I found bed bugs in the room, the bed sheets were dirty, we were supposed to be in a room for 6 people and they allocated 8 people in the room. The communication in English is not sufficient. The hostel was overbooked, there were just 3 toilets and 1 shower, they were always dirty and flooded. We didn’t feel secure.

The hostel was undergoing renovations whilst I was there. There were no locks on any doors, no lockers and many, many things inside of the hostel were broken (bunk beds, door handles, bathrooms, etc). Some other people staying their mentioned that theft was an issue. When I arrived there was only one power socket in a room that held up to eight people. There was one working shower for the entire hostel. Watch out when going to the bathroom, many of the bathrooms do not have doors that close properly, let alone lock. The hostel was hard to find (it is in the building behind the kebab place on the second floor) and I was unable to find any signs directing people to it. There was little in the way of day to day management by the owners, instead I had to ask advice from the sole construction worker completing the renovations who spoke English, who remarkably also turned out to be by far the most racist man I have ever met (no small feat) and who gave me lectures in the mornings on his views whilst I was getting ready to head out for the day. By far the worst hostel I stayed at during the months I spent backpacking around Europe. Do not go here unless you have no other option.

Centrum Hostel is een goedkope, centrale Pecs crashpad, het best behandeld als last-minute bed in plaats van gepolijste hostelscene. De nuttige delen zijn rechttoe rechtaan: de locatie ligt dicht bij het stadscentrum, de prijs kan laag zijn en er is een gedeelde keuken die basics kan hebben zoals kookplaat, magnetron, koelkast en drinkbaar kraanwater. Dit is geen sociaal hostel om te romantiseren. De sfeer kan ruw voelen, met dronken mensen, langetermijnbewoners, slechte grenzen rond dormkamers en weinig gevoel van veilige persoonlijke ruimte. Lockers of afsluitbare kamers kunnen ontbreken, en bagageopslag kan simpelweg betekenen dat je de kamer vertrouwt. Faciliteiten zijn inconsistent. Warm water kan falen, badkamers kunnen vies of overstroomd zijn, bedden en stapelbedden kunnen versleten of onveilig zijn, en beddengoed is onbetrouwbaar geweest. Check-in kan ook onhandig zijn: het gebouw kan moeilijk te vinden zijn, bewegwijzering kan ontbreken, deurcodes kunnen niet vooraf aankomen en staffcommunicatie kan buiten Hongaars beperkt zijn. De beste fit is een budgetreiziger die het centrum van Pecs nodig heeft, een heel basic setup kan verdragen en comfortabel is om waardevolle spullen de hele dag mee te dragen. Iedereen die schoonmaak, kalme slaap, veilige opslag, duidelijke check-in of een normale hostelvibe nodig heeft, moet hier voorzichtig zijn.

- Betrouwbare lockers of kamersloten zijn mogelijk niet beschikbaar.
- Warm water, beddengoed, stopcontacten en badkamerschoonmaak kunnen onbetrouwbaar zijn.
- Het gebouw kan moeilijk te vinden zijn, met zwakke bewegwijzering en lastige toegang.
- Check-in, checkouttijd, kamerindeling en communicatie over extra betalingen kunnen inconsistent zijn.
- De sfeer kan onveilig of ongemakkelijk aanvoelen, vooral in gedeelde kamers.
