Europa Melbourne

- I had a very disappointing and upsetting experience at Europa Melbourne. I was staying there and also doing free accommodation work, cleaning the kitchen during night shifts and helping keep the hostel clean. During my stay, there was a group of male guests who constantly made jokes, insults, inappropriate comments, and behaved in a very disrespectful way toward me. Some of these situations felt clearly homophobic and targeted. When I responded to defend myself and tried not to let them disrespect me, they went to reception and falsely claimed that I was harassing them. Instead of listening fairly to both sides or trying to understand the real situation, management immediately blamed me without giving me a real chance to explain. The manager was extremely rude, cold, and unprofessional. I felt judged, unsupported, and treated unfairly from the beginning. After working for the hostel and helping every night, I expected at least basic respect, but instead I was simply forced to leave. The atmosphere became toxic very quickly, and I felt that staff handled the conflict badly and without fairness. I left feeling humiliated and disappointed. The location is central, but management and the way they handle guests is very poor. I would especially warn LGBTQ+ travelers to be careful, because I did not feel protected or respected there. I would not return and I would not recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a safe and respectful environment.

+ Wifi and location was good

- There is no noise cancellation, no ac , and no one respects you whether you are sleeping or not

- Ich musste im Keller Schlafen. Zimmer war soo kalt, kein Fenster zum Lüften. Die Klimaanlage war die ganze Zeit an, konnte man im Zimmer nicht abschalten. Hab in der ersten Nacht Schüttelfrost und Fieber bekommen, konnte fast nicht einschlafen, da es soo kalt war. Am nächsten Tag habe ich an der Rezeption gefragt, ob ich eine zweite Decke haben könnte weil ich mich nicht fit gefühlt habe und es so kalt war- hab keine zweite Decke bekommen!

+ There is a huge and most of the time tidy walk-in fridge. Each bed got their private curtains.

- The kitchen is dirty, people don't clean behind them. There's no ventilation in 10 to 14 beds rooms so it smells extremely bad, the windows can't be opened. The basement rooms are full of mold and smell terrible up to 5 meters away in the hallway. I checked in at 10.30pm, and I woke up sick at 8am. Lucky me I got transferred to a slightly better room for the rest of my week. Easily 1/3 person in this hostel in constantly coughing due to this. Maybe I've been unlucky but most of my showers during the week were not even warm. Avoid this place unless you are extremely young or you like to smoke w..d either in front of the main entrance or on a nice rooftop.

+ Central location

- No one follows the rules. The rules said no party at late night but people just simply ignored it. If you stay downstairs it’s gonna be a horrible night because of the noise from the common room next door.

+ The Bed sheets and blankets was too nice comport able and clean

- Some rooms are not properly clean and blankets are not replaced. Referring to my previous rooms not the current

+ Cheap, great location, helpful staff

+ It was clean and comfortable.

+ Bien situé dans le CBD de Melbourne. Idéal si vous venez d’arriver en ville et que vous cherchez un hostel pour séjourner 1-2semaines. La chambre, lit très confortable et chambre rénovée. Rooftop très cool et personnel hyper accueillant, sympa! Sinon j’ai trouvé l’hostel très propre!

- Repenser le système des frigos, c’est vraiment pas hygiénique de poser sa nourriture au sol (même si c’est dans des bin). Installer des rideaux aux fenêtres dans les chambres rénovées (lumière du lampadaire qui éclaire la chambre), des rideaux sont installés au lit mais ça n’est pas suffisant.
