Me picaron chinches en la cama

Hostel was heavily impacted by bed bugs, which was reported to me by other guests moving out, not the staff. Two other rooms were fully infested and the girls had multiple bites. The staff initially did not react to those news in a proper manner and seriousness. They kept admitting new guests after we all moved out.

my only reason for a low rate is the bed bugs, I got several bites and I had an ugly allergic reaction, needed to use an expensive ointment. this happened in the lower shared dorm, seems the upper dorms was ok as my friends had no issues.

I advise everyone NOT to go to this hostel. I was bitten very badly by bed bugs that gave me a horrible allergic reaction that affected me for weeks. The owner does nothing against it and only finds excuses. I only got my money back after an unnecessary argument. It was so obvious it was the hostel's fault as I have evidence of bed bugs in and under my bed and on the wall. My room was not the only one infested, so it’s a problem that keeps appearing throughout the hostel.

Vibe Analysis
Ilha Grande Hostel is a central Abraao base in a two-level house, close to the pier, main street, shops, restaurants, and the beach, with a flat walk in. The strongest fit is for backpackers who want a clean, practical island crashpad with a warm small-hostel feel rather than a polished resort setup. The kitchen is a real asset here: spacious, well equipped, and repeatedly useful for cooking, with extras like filtered water, big fridges, food storage space, and basic seasonings. There is also laundry by the kilo, clothes-drying space, luggage storage around check-in and checkout, and in at least one case access to a shower after checkout. Beds may have curtains, power sockets, and phone shelves, and a few rooms add a balcony, hammock, private bathroom, or AC. The staff side is usually the heart of the place, with practical island tips, hike help, friendly volunteer energy, shared meals, and a family-ish atmosphere that can make arrivals feel easy. The tradeoff is that the building can feel old and tight. Rooms may be cramped or poorly ventilated, bathrooms can be too few for the number of beds, lockers are not always reliable, and AC, Wi-Fi, bunk noise, and shared-bathroom queues can be annoying. The social vibe is mixed: it can be friendly and connective, but at other times quiet, cliquey, or messy.
Signals to check
- There have been recurring bed bug and flea problems, including bites and room changes, so check very recent conditions before booking.
- Bathrooms can be limited, and queues are possible at busy times.
- Rooms may be small, hot, noisy, or poorly ventilated when AC is weak or unavailable.
- Lockers, Wi-Fi, showers, and AC have been inconsistent.
- There are serious negative accounts about staff handling, cleanliness, overbooking, and disruptive behavior from earlier periods, alongside much stronger recent experiences.
