Vibe Analysis

This is a family-run homestay in Yogyakarta where the hosts are the main reason to come. Chi Chi (also written Cici), often alongside Gigi, Eka, Titi and the rest of the family, greets you warmly, learns your name fast, and treats you more like a guest in their home than a booking number. They help organize a lot: tours to Mount Bromo, Ijen, and Borobudur, scooter rentals, laundry, airport transfers, train and ticket bookings, and solid tips on where to eat and what to see. The Bromo/Ijen tours can run pricey, and you may be able to arrange them cheaper yourself, so it's worth comparing before you book. The layout is built for hanging out. There's a swimming pool and a garden with plenty of shaded spots to lounge, plus common areas and a table where there's usually someone around to chat with. The social, backpacker atmosphere is a real draw, especially if you're traveling solo or at the start of a trip. Free coffee, tea, and water are available, and most mornings include a homemade breakfast that changes day to day: pancakes, omelette or egg on toast, mie goreng, and fruit. Breakfast isn't always included in the rate, so confirm when you book. There's also a small vegetarian warung on site. The building is unusual: partly made from recycled materials, simple and a bit boutique in places. Rooms are basic and clean enough for a comfortable sleep, with AC in many of them, and some are spacious with comfy beds. Several rooms have no windows, which keeps mosquitoes out but can feel dark or stuffy. The location sits just off a main road, tucked into a calmer corner but only a short walk from Prawirotaman's restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops, with the city center and temples easy to reach. The pool has gone through stretches of construction and has sometimes been empty or closed for months, and at times the whole property was under renovation with daytime noise. When that happens the hosts have offered free nights or moved people to better rooms. Cleanliness and upkeep are the weak points: the place could get a real lift from more investment, and some bathrooms and rooms have been left in rough shape.

Signals to check

  • Cleanliness is inconsistent. Cockroaches, rats or mice, and ants have turned up in rooms and bathrooms more than once, sometimes badly enough that people changed rooms or left early. The hosts generally respond and try to help when an issue is raised. 3 mentions Last mentioned Mar 26, 2025
  • The pool is a highlight but not guaranteed. It has been empty, dirty, or closed for construction at times, so check its current status before booking if it matters to you. 3 mentions Last mentioned May 15, 2026
  • Bathrooms and showers are basic and hit or miss: cold water or no hot water in some rooms, weak or trickling shower pressure, and occasional drainage smells or leaks. 3 mentions Last mentioned Feb 19, 2026
  • Several rooms have wooden or thin walls and no windows, so noise from neighbors, the common area, the kitchen, and crawling insects can get in. Some rooms are dark. 3 mentions Last mentioned Aug 13, 2024
  • Outside noise can disrupt sleep: early construction, a nearby mosque, roosters, and children playing during the day. 3 mentions Last mentioned Feb 19, 2026
  • A male staff member has, on multiple occasions, drunk with guests and made flirtatious or inappropriate remarks that left women feeling uncomfortable. 3 mentions Last mentioned Aug 1, 2024
  • Rooms have only small lockers, some door locks have been unreliable, AC and wifi can be patchy, and parking is limited since the site is shared with other homestays. 3 mentions Last mentioned Sep 16, 2024
