Stayed here with a group of middle school kids. Was in a great location. Staff were helpful but often seemed annoyed they had to work. The bunk rooms we stayed in were small and some of us got bed bug bites. The rooms had a great view tho! I wont be staying again.

I asked one of the girls working there if I could charge my vape and she said yes. Went in the morning to pick it up and they couldn’t find it. The girl working there had either stolen it or given it away to someone else. She was horrible about it too. I mean this type of experience while you are travelling is bad enough but the people that are soppose to be taking care of you were just completely uncaring and reckless. They are not sorry because I asked for a refund and they sent me a email about how there were no bed bugs in my room after an inspection. This place is seedy. I noticed it when I came in for the first time the staff have this attitude about them. Aside from the view there is nothing good about this place. The beds don’t have curtains and no plug no breakfast and the beds creek. I talked to hi USA and then after that they told me they were going to issue me a full refund. Then they only gave me 1 night. Literally just trying to get away with whatever they can.

Room was quite muggy and hot. I hated the bathroom situation, the bathrooms were completely small and felt like a public bathroom. Showers felt not very private - they are private but I would’ve preferred a door or something that I can lock whilst showering. Roommates okay, bedding okay. Location is dodgy to walk to from Fisherman’s Wharf at night/in the dark - felt very unsafe walking around 8pm when it was dark. Watch out for coyotes too. It’s a great location in the morning to walk around and get to other touristy places. I personally would recommend staying at this hostel for a night then heading to another hostel - I had a much better experience at the green tortoise hostel (see my review on that by checking my profile - not paid). Overall I was satisfied with my stay, I knew what I was expecting but there’s definitely room for improvement considering that the other hostel I stayed at was cheaper and better. It’s nice to provide a free breakfast and kitchen area. I didn’t like how some of the other hostel guests decide to get changed in the room - it makes me uncomfortable considering it was with no warning and they didn’t check to make sure no one else is awake/around. Not really a great start to the day to see a random woman changing and definitely not socially acceptable to do so either. The hostel is not bad but it’s not good either. I treated it as merely a place to sleep on a budget. No bed bugs which was great.
