Bed bug reports

I stayed at this hostel in Adelaide and I strongly advise caution. The conditions were extremely unhygienic and unsafe: Insects and larvae were present in both the kitchen and the rooms. There were bugs in the beds, and I was bitten while sleeping (suspected bed bugs). Bathrooms were mouldy, damaged, and very dirty — the shower was unusable. The kitchen was so dirty that I was afraid to cook and had to eat outside every meal. Overall hygiene standards were far below acceptable levels. I reported the situation to the hostel management and the booking platform, but no action was taken. This experience was very stressful and poses a serious health risk. I hope this review helps others avoid the same problems.

Make sure you organise for a key to be left out if arriving out of hours. Hard to contact directly. We were assured there would be someone there at 10pm, but could hear the phone and mobile ring on the desk on arrival. Another guest let us in. We let other guests in the next night for the same reason. Bathrooms are mouldy, unclean, and in massive disrepair. Bed is super saggy with probable bed-bugs. We felt itchy. Zero soundproofing and place has rubbish in all common areas like an unkempt sharehouse.

It's a smaller hostel so the best part about this hostel is definitely the community, almost family feel to it. The manager does a good job of that! Also some backpackers help out for free accommodation so one feels obligated to take a bit more care of dishes for example, but as any hostel, dishes get left out sometimes. The building's old and has squeaky floors so definitely have earplugs ready (as you should in any hostel really). I stayed a week and loved it overall except for the bed bugs which I noted to the manager who kindly sprayed my bed and gave me new sheets! Overall would recommend this hostel if in need of a more budget and friendly stay! You'll easily make friends here!
