ME HUG Guesthouse and Hostel is a very practical Phayao stop if the bus station is driving the plan: it sits right by the terminal, on a main street with restaurants nearby, and within walking distance of the lake, market, shops, and eating places. The setup is basic and small, more for sleeping and washing than for meeting people. It can work for a cheap night or two, especially if sturdy private beds and a central location matter more than atmosphere. There are real rough edges. Cleanliness can be poor, with mold, stains, spider webs, and worn bathrooms showing up as problems. Rats have also been an issue at night. Towels and toilet paper may not be provided, and hot water is not a sure thing.
