The room to way tooooooooo small for a family . I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place for families. We brought two carry-on suitcases and one medium-sized suitcase, and it was impossible to open them all at once. The room is unbelievably cramped—so small that it even felt hard to breathe. My husband had to sleep on the wall-mounted bed and ended up getting bitten by bedbugs. The cleaning and pest control were clearly not done properly.

BED BUGS ! We stayed two nights. The hostel itself is nice but we got bitten by bed bugs and had them after staying here. It's horrible to get rid of them so avoid !!

Vibe Analysis

Mt Ulriken access is the main reason HI Bergen Hostel Montana makes sense: the hostel sits high above Bergen, close to hiking trails, with strong city views from the terrace, breakfast area, garden, and common spaces. It is a better fit for hikers, drivers, and travelers who want a nature base than for anyone trying to bounce between bars downtown. Breakfast is included and can be solid, though the quality seems inconsistent. There is a shared kitchen, a supermarket nearby, luggage storage, parking, laundry, a gym, ping-pong, and common areas that can work for meeting people. The mood leans practical and outdoorsy rather than wild party hostel. Rooms are basic, often small, and sometimes cramped, with bunk beds, limited storage, and shared bathrooms in many setups. Some private rooms have their own bathroom, but bathroom size and ventilation can still be rough. This is a functional Bergen base with a big-view hiking brain, not a polished comfort machine.
