Explain how it works
We compare every 5★ review's word count against the global distribution. Hostels where unusually many top-rated reviews are suspiciously short — way under the typical length — start to look like the staff (or a boost-my-listing service) is padding the score with throwaway praise.
The detector flags reviews that are both top-rated and below a length threshold, then estimates how many of them statistically shouldn't exist. For this hostel we scanned 1783 top-rated reviews and 1% were suspiciously short.
Length z-score: 17.47. A z-score measures how far this hostel's distribution of 5★ review lengths sits from the global average, in standard deviations. 0 = perfectly typical. 1–2 = slightly unusual but within normal noise. 3–5 = strongly anomalous. Anything 10+ means the pattern is so far from the global norm that it's effectively impossible to get there organically.
This is a heuristic, not a verdict — it surfaces hostels worth a second look, not proof of fraud. Read the actual reviews below and judge for yourself.

Reward tied to a review
refund. Lesson learned about reading the review
Bed bug warning I stayed for two nights— the second night confirmed that there were bed bugs as I work up with 20+ bites all over my ankles, hands and neck. The receptionist warned I may not be able to receive a full refund. Lesson learned about reading the reviews prior to staying at a hostel/hotel. TLDR- don’t stay here unless you like bedbugs

Review-authenticity complaint
reviews and the price we paid
The hostel was easy to find. The staff receiving and greeting us were very friendly and helpful. I believe we received precisely what we were expecting based on Booking.com reviews and the price we paid. The a/c in the room worked marvelously! There weren't any cups or mugs if we wanted to make our coffee in the morning. There also wasn't an option to boil water. Instead, you were expected to use the vending machine.

Pressure to leave a review
pressured and effectively blackmailed into leaving 5-star review
Nothing After check-out we were accused of damaging the shower cabin. We completely deny this. The only “evidence” provided was a single photo that did not even match our room — the floor in the image was different, so it was clearly not our accommodation. We were then pressured and effectively blackmailed into leaving 5-star reviews on Booking and Google in exchange for “closing the issue,” which is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. The stay itself was also disappointing: the property is located in a poorly maintained and unsafe-feeling area, with constant noise in the inner courtyard where people were drinking alcohol. Our room faced this courtyard, making it impossible to rest. At night there were also frequent loud alarm sounds at specific hours.
