As a frequent hostel visitor, this place was extremely underwhelming and quite literally the worst hostel I have ever stayed at. My biggest issues here were the quality of the room we stayed at. The A/C unit was not working and despite our attempts to notify the staff, nothing was ever done. The beds were very creaky and felt more like fourth grade camping beds rather than a top-rated hostel. Finally the icing on the cake was the bed bugs in some of our beds as some of us woke up with numerous bites on our bodies. I would not suggest staying here and can’t wait for the rude response I’m going to get for this review.

Before you book your stay, I think it’s important to share my personal experience at this Hostal. The staff were friendly and tried their best to assist me, but unfortunately my stay was heavily affected. After my first night, I woke up with what seemed to be bedbug bites on my arm. This completely ruined my holiday. Instead of enjoying my trip, I spent the rest of my stay stressed, uncomfortable, and unable to relax. The hostel offered me financial compensation, and I appreciated that gesture. However, it didn’t change the fact that my vacation was spoiled. When I returned home, I had to throw away several pieces of clothing and disinfect everything I brought with me, which caused even more stress and financial loss. While the staff were kind, the management urgently needs to address the hygiene and room inspection standards. No guest should go through this during their holiday.

Found bedbugs here. I thought that they would at the very least refund my stay or offer free breakfast; but that was not the case. Employees were incredibly kind, but there was no procedure in place to accommodate the guest other than offering to clean my clothes at no cost. I booked this place considering the good reviews, but the bedbugs completely soured my first trip staying at a hostel.

Stayed in the largest dorm. Nice and homey design. Bed was comfortable but i got bitten by something on the last day. Dont think it was bed bugs though. Toilet was not really clean. The shower basket full of leftover shower items that were not cleared during the 5 nights i was there. The dry area had more leftover items and even pad that was also not cleared near the chair area. Staff was friendly. Location was very central and good.

Vibe Analysis

The Hat Madrid sits in a very central spot near Plaza Mayor, with easy walks to Sol, Gran Vía, and nearby food spots. The building has a rooftop bar, and it also runs things like sangria classes and pub crawls, so the place leans lively and busy rather than quiet. Rooms can be tight, and upper bunks do not always get the same privacy as lower ones. Some beds have curtains, lights, and outlets, but other setups feel more exposed. Noise can carry through the halls and from upstairs, and late-night sound seems like part of the deal here. There is a kitchen area, lockers, laundry, and common spaces, but the cooking setup is limited. Breakfast is available, though it gets mixed reactions. The biggest pull is the location, plus the active, social pace inside the building.
