Explain how it works
We compare every 5★ review's word count against the global distribution. Hostels where unusually many top-rated reviews are suspiciously short — way under the typical length — start to look like the staff (or a boost-my-listing service) is padding the score with throwaway praise.
The detector flags reviews that are both top-rated and below a length threshold, then estimates how many of them statistically shouldn't exist. For this hostel we scanned 1410 top-rated reviews and 0% were suspiciously short.
Length z-score: 6.52. A z-score measures how far this hostel's distribution of 5★ review lengths sits from the global average, in standard deviations. 0 = perfectly typical. 1–2 = slightly unusual but within normal noise. 3–5 = strongly anomalous. Anything 10+ means the pattern is so far from the global norm that it's effectively impossible to get there organically.
This is a heuristic, not a verdict — it surfaces hostels worth a second look, not proof of fraud. Read the actual reviews below and judge for yourself.

discount related to these issues I will amend my review
Messaged with my booking to request early check in at 12:00. Was told by hotel management I could pay for early check in. Came from the other side of the city around 12:00-1:00 to pay for early check in and was told we couldn’t check in. Was then forced to pay 20-30 euro to store our luggage until checking in even though we were told we could check in early. We were told our room should still be ready a bit early around 2 so we waited. We’re then told it wouldn’t be ready till the normal check in time at 3:00. Came back and it still wasn’t ready at the normal check in time. So we lost several hours waiting around and they just ended up switching our rooms so we could check in around 3:20-3:30ish. Check out time is supposed to be 11:00, was woken up to a cleaning person coming in at 9:00 and again around 10:00 to us sleeping completely naked. Not once but twice, no nock I couldn’t believe it…. The rooms weren’t bad but the pillows were terrible. I paid a little over 200€ for the room i recognized they are busy during Octoberfest but these seem like they would of been pretty avoidable issues with better communication. If they provide some sort of discount related to these issues I will amend my review but my experience was definitely far from satisfactory for the price.

asked to switch rooms. The one-star rating
The facilities were good and they were able to accommodate us when we asked to switch rooms. The one-star rating is because the staff didn’t seem to know how to act in a fire. The fire alarm sounded one night - apparently due to a party - and the staff told us we could return to our rooms despite the fire alarm still sounding and the fire department having not arrived yet.
