   Listen to the reviews and don’t stay here. Our room was trashed while we were out and we were forced to sleep on soaking wet bedding after water was thrown all over our pillow/duvet and our food mashed into the floor. The rooms themselves are filthy with sediment/mould in crevasses/walls/windows. The toilets stink. We couldn’t enter the property as all doors had to be locked due to an unwanted guest trying to enter. Screaming in the hallways at 4/5am, fights breaking out. People urinating in sinks in plain sight. I was shouted at by staff to “get into my room now.” This place should be investigated. It is a health and safety hazard to stay here and is a stain on the cultural and touristic heritage of Killarney. All locals cringed when they heard that we were staying here. When you cannot sleep the entire night and are laying in soaked bedding in a damp, mouldy, smelly room, you’ll wish you spent a bit extra on a proper place to stay like a guesthouse. The owner should be ashamed that this establishment is even remotely associated with Killarney - what a joke. Never again.

   horrible. i thought reviews were being dramatic. no its disgusting, they don’t clean the sheets, the whole place smells terrible. im a solo female traveler and felt very unsafe, every time i was in the kitchen some old man was harassing me. stay literally anywhere else.

   I'm not crazy picky, the bed was fine. Bathrooms smelled constantly and clearly the toilets have issues as there are towels underneath each one. Kitchen had rotting milk, and no kettle. There was a boiler but it wasn't clear that it was food safe so maybe boil water in a pot? I know that it's up to luck who you room with but make it more clear that there should be some basic rules for the rooms. Like no loud talking with lights on all the way into the AM. And people had sex in the bed across!

   Bitte gehe nicht in dieses Hostel! Meine Erfahrung im Railway Hostel in Killarney war einfach nur schrecklich. Das "Hostel" ist vielmehr eine Unterkunft für Obdachlose als ein Ort für Touristen und Reisende. Die Bettwäsche roch unangenehm nach Schweiß, alles war dreckig und unhygienisch. Die Duschen waren so heiß, dass man das Gefühl hatte, man würde eher gekocht als geduscht werden. Das Personal war unkooperativ und unfreundlich und man fühlte sich überhaupt nicht wohl - vor allem als Frau. Die Atmosphäre war unheimlich und man hatte ständig Angst, sodass an Schlaf kaum zu denken war. Ein besonders erschreckendes Erlebnis war eine Schlägerei mitten im Zimmer, bei der ich nachts durch lautes Geschrei aufwachte und Blut sah, das vom Gesicht eines Mannes tropfte. Zudem gab es Vorfälle, bei denen Gäste sich gegenseitig belästigt haben - ein Gast urinierte nachts auf einen anderen. Als ich den Manager darauf ansprach, zeigte er keinerlei Einsicht und beschwerte sich nur über die schlechten Rezensionen. Ich kann dazu nur sagen: Jede negative Bewertung ist absolut gerechtfertigt. Ich kann nur jedem ans Herz legen, etwas mehr Geld auszugeben und ein anderes Hostel zu wählen. Es war wirklich eine der schlimmsten Erfahrungen, die ich je gemacht habe.

   We've never experienced anything more absurd and frightening in my entire life. A very aggressive and drunk man slept with us in our room. He first threatened to punch a girl, then broke the nose of another drug-addicted man who peed on his bed. I've attached the photos below. Furthermore, when the guard came to check on the situation, he only sent the drug addict out and gave the aggressive man clean sheets. We didn't feel safe at all, we were up all night without sleeping, because they didn't even give us the option to change rooms. The next day we spoke to reception, but their response was that the actions of the other guests were not their responsibility. The problem we encountered was that they let anyone in, no matter the hour and the alcohol/drug condition, without guaranteeing the safety of other guests.

   I would not recommend this hostel. Half the outlets in my room didn’t work, and a lot of the facilities seemed broken or poorly maintained. The staff were unhelpful at best. One night, two drunk guys got into a fight in my dorm room. Instead of handling the situation properly, the staff only removed one of them and let the other stay. This left everyone in the room—especially the women—shaken and unable to sleep the rest of the night. Safety and basic hospitality should be the bare minimum, and this hostel failed on both counts.

   One of the worst hostels i've been to, the beds are very dirty and the smell is nasty, in the night at 4 a.m. 4 persons entered in my room when there was only one bed left and argued with one of the other roomates till they got it. Then they sleept in 2 individual beds. One of the worst experiences of my life

    PLEASE do not be fooled by "local guides" reviews. I can only presume the positive reviews are old, from staff or bots. Whilst cheapness betrays a certain level of expectation, this establishment is leagues below what could be deemed acceptable. 5-10 euro a night would be a far more reasonable price. The negatives: This is not suitable for families nor would I recommend women (solo or otherwise) stay here as I was forced into verbal altercations with drunk rambling men more than once. Having stayed in hostels dozens of times I would say this is easily the crustiest, dingiest, most unwelcoming environment I've ever had the deep misfortune of experiencing. The first thing of note was that this appears to be emergency overflow accommodation for the homeless although this point is not acknowledged by the establishment. There were several people in the room who remained drunk and bed-bound for my entire stay, many of whom staff seemed to know quite well indicating a longer term duration of stay. They slept all day and played full volume music and foreign language talk shows all night. Asking them repeatedly to turn it down was met with vacant stares and shrugs. One man whom I suspect was a homeless patron continuously cried out for his mother throughout the day and night in what I can only assume was a drug addled fugue state. Staff engaged with him casually several times, mostly to tell him off. Whilst that may sound beneficial, on one occasion a staff member swore repeatedly and angrily threatened him with physical violence if he didn't turn down his phone. Sans the above incident the other staff were pleasant enough but they spent most of their time sitting smoking cigarettes at the front door. Having noted the lack of action in other reviews regarding complaints I didn't even bother to lodge one. Dirty rooms. Dirty bathrooms. Dirty showers. I can only imagine the field day a health inspector would have if they had the stomach and a firm enough sense of duty to even cross the threshold. The positives: Good location. I normally don't leave reviews but I felt genuinely compelled to warn others. If you can't afford a better hostel, sleep in the car.

    There was a fight between night porter and person staying in hostel who was as first shouting outside and then had come in slamming doors non stop for about 5-10 mins. I think he was maybe drunk and also potentially homeless. There seems to be a few homeless people staying in the hostel who seem mostly lovely but this one man seemed mentally unwell. But it was terrifying to hear the night porter punching the man outside the door of my room.

    It is exceedingly rare that I ever leave a review for anywhere I stay. Yet, this place was so awful I see it as necessary to warn other travellers to NOT stay here. From the get-go, something felt off as soon as I walked in, firstly the place stunk, and secondly, a lot of the other guests (not all, but most) made me wildly uncomfortable. For some, this hostel is not just a cheap holiday stay but their home, the amount of dirty and suspicious looks I got off a lot of dodgy looking characters is unbelievable. There are a lot of people living here full time, and it brings with it a certain air of unsafety. Please consider I am a man and felt this way, if you're a woman definitely avoid staying here. Thirdly, there is no lock-up, excepy a room by reception that is not locked up. This means anyone can walk into it at any time. I had to take all of my valuables with me every time I left the hostel. I felt so uncomfortable here I actually left early to find accommodation elsewhere. Yes, it may be cheap, but at what cost? Spend a little extra and stay in the Black Sheep Hostel or one of the other hostels a 5 minute walk up the road.

    I paid 20 euro for the night in 10.or 12 bed. dorm, which is pretty good for Ireland, I had a warm clean bed to sleep in and a place to eat charge my phone downstairs... .a lot of installations definitely aren't the best but if you just need a warm bed to sleep in for a night it's ok There was a strange incident, in the middle of the night I was woken up by this guy shining light on everyone's faces and I noticed that he got completely naked, but he quickly jumped into his bed... So I didn't think much of it. . just a drunk guy.. I just turned to the other side and went back to sleep. And I slept in till 9 am as I didn't have too much going on in the morning. Once I woke up I noticed that there was only me and the guy left in the room.I quickly jumped out of my bed took all my belongings and went to the showers .. kind of even feeling sorry for him, as if he was naked under his bed sheets he obviously was scared to get dressed before everyone leaves the room. However the guy came into the shower room quite quickly after me and start taking shower I just got changed and was leaving but he managed to open his shower door completely naked exactly at the same time as I did. Then I did told him that what a heck you not supposed to be walking around naked. And went down to the receptionist to tell him what happened. He tried to find the guy but apparently he was hidding somewhere and he left the hostel as the receptionist was looking for him ... So that was a bit weird, but I guess it can happen in any hostel.

    There was a loud group that came in between 1-5am and were shouting and kicking doors. No staff were there to stop this. Other hostel goers had to intervene and were threatened. I would avoid this place at all costs.

    Great location and staff very helpful Didn't feel safe there Female travellers especially Beware Mixed dorms and my friend was harrased by a guy guest! Police called first night as there was trouble.     I arrived in the evening, two of the people working here had an argument over my bike. One of them took my bike and tried to shove it into a bike rack that was too small and broke the wheel. Most of the staff seem pretty unhappy and in turn makes the service low. I asked to talk to the boss about who was going to pay for My bike, to which he was called, and told me it wasn't his problem. Eventually the person who broke my bike agreed to fix the wheel, and was argumentative and stubborn about the whole process. As for the amenities, they are stock standard for a hostel. If you're precious I wouldn't stay here, if you have a thick skin and sleep with your gear (and maybe don't have a bike) you'll be fine. But yeah the boss doesn't care about the staff and it shows in the level of care the staff have, which is a shame, it could be something really nice.

    À éviter absolument! Les draps, toilettes, lavabos sont régulièrement sales ou hors service. Le personnel est ivre et malhonnête. Des vols sont régulièrement commis, notamment dans la cuisine. Un incendie s’est déclaré au sein de l’hôtel, aucun secours n’a été appelé, nous mettant par conséquent en danger. Les gérants ont refusé tout remboursement, même partiel du séjour bien qu’ils reconnaissent pleinement avoir conscience de la situation. Cet hôtel est problématique, nous vous le déconseillons très fortement.

    The facilities are filthy and half of them don’t work, the sheets have stains, there’s no lockers in the rooms, there’s 2 outlets for 9 people, there’s rotting food in the fridge, there’s a general dangerous vibe to the whole place. We had a man screaming at and threatening another guest all night for snoring. Highly advise against staying here especially if you are a woman travelling alone.

    For the love of ALL THAT IS HOLY do NOT stay here. As someone who is not picky, nor writes many reviews, I write this one to warn. After staying here a handful of days I cannot find a simple redeeming quality about this hostel.     My partner and I sat in our car for half an hour after we checked out of this place reading the reviews to try and process the fraudulent experience we had here. Came across one positive review which claimed "you get what you pay for" and "lower your expectations", which was presumably posted by the man we dealt with at reception who I believe is the owner, because I can safely say that you DO NOT get what you pay for here. We paid €110 for a night in a dingy set of bunk beds which didn't even have a ladder. The bathroom mirror was covered in mould and there was no soap or towels in the bathroom. The tattiest towels I've ever seen had to be hired for €3 a pop, and the receptionist wouldn't accept payment for them on the card machine. His regard was so curtailed that he shamelessly pocketed that cash right in front of us, and tried to get us to source coinage because he didn't have the right change. He scowled because we couldn't accommodate his lack of correct change. The only time he looked up from whatever he was doing under the desk was to take our payment. No hello upon arrival, no goodbye upon departure. Nothing short of an arrogant prick. Killarney is a beautiful place, but staying in the Railway Hostel will taint your experience of it completely. The fact that the location is so central is totally highjacked. Absolutely not worth what you pay.

    NOT A FAMILY HOSTEL. The only reason I didn't leave in the middle of the night was because I felt it was too unsafe. Angry man kept coming back, yelling, hitting things, being evicted then returning. Staff did nothing to alleviate my concerns, just stared at me blankly. No towels provided, you have to hire them.     Honestly I didn’t feel safe, you could walk up the fire escape in the day straight into the hostel, doors took a couple of tries to shut. No one reception when I got there, and someone came only 10 minutes after arrival.

    Where shall we start? 1-A poor girl got lashed on by the front desk staff for daring speaking up about food being stolen. 2-Dirty kitchen, dirty dishes and a dish soap super diluted to avoid having to buy another one. 3-People having no respect for others, making video call at 3 am, watching videos with barking dogs in the middle of the night, smoking with a foot on the door to prevent it from closing = smelling cigarette all over the dorm Toilets are blocked, showers are disgusting And more!

    Great value for money and nice and central. Lack of key cards for rooms posed several problems, such as roomates knocking on the door in the middle of the night and door being left open which reduced security. Overall, nice atmosphere and people though.

    Not much after that last stay even when I am frequent enough guest. This stay has totally turned me off them. So I booked a single room which I paid for grand gave 20 euro security deposit for the room grand. They put me into a triple room a double and a single bed. From the checking in to checking out the receptionist was rude. I advised I was never asked 20 euro security before by any other staff member oh but she is only one who follows rules acc to her. Now checking out so 2 friends stayed with me there was room as i had being given a triple room even when i requested a single so thats on them. When I got to reception the receptionist was there gave her my key card and i was like can i have my 20 euro back she said no. She started shouting me insulting me by name calling one name she called me was a RAT as well as ‘Your sort ain’t wanted in killarney’. Now if ur sitting behind a desk of hostel your customer service skills should be up to standard. She degraded me she shouted at me called me names the whole place could here a guest walked passed and she continued shouting. She refused to give my 20 euro back even when the room was left in perfect condition even when it was there fault they gave me a triple room when i requested a single room so thats there problem. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSTEL BECAUSE THE ABUSE I GOT OFF HER WAS NOT HOW YOU DEAL WITH GUEST. I FELT VERY threatened by her she was rude from the beginning of the stay. I paid for single they gave a triple not my problem my friends caused no trouble or hassle during the stay. I am highly disgusted by this. I recommend the manager of the place to sort the staff out and maybe give them some customer service training because What I got was abuse not customer service 😡😡😡😡😡

    AVOID!!!! Stayed here in a private room with friends. Room was "keycard access only" however multiple valuables were stolen from the room while we were not there. Staff were horrible, unbelievably rude, arrogant, and unhelpful. Aside from this, the hostel did not have working showers, there is practically no parking outside, and we felt extremely unsafe during our stay. There is also no CCTV (making the owners look very suspicious). AVOID unless you want anything of value to you taken and a negative experience in Killarney overall!!!

    DANGER please be careful - this hostel is housing some dangerous men long term who are abusing alcohol and are physically violent. Someone will get killed or seriously injured in this place. If you are a solo female traveller I particularly would suggest avoiding. Sleeping in your car would be safer. We stayed with our family and I stayed awake all night because there was a man screaming and banging on other guests doors, threatening people and trying to get into rooms. The receptionist told us not to bother ringing her. You are on your own. Beds were not clean. Old rooms. But mostly it was my concern for my families safety. I went for a holiday and I am completely stressed out after that experience. Please be careful!

    I was worried to stay here based on previous reviews. The bathrooms I found were waaay cleaner than the reviews made out to be. The bed area in the 10-bed dorm wasn’t toooo bad. Staff was pleasant enough. Linens were old & could be replaced. If you inspected around the bed in the 10-bed room, you could see LOTS of dust build up. The lobby & the room with did have a weird smell. Rooms were mixed gender which normally isn’t an issue as long as no one bothers me. However , all of this was tolerable considering the price. What wasn’t tolerable however, was the fact that at some point during the night while I was asleep, my bra was stolen off the bed from right beside me, presumably by a male guest who checked in very late in the night only for a couple hours. I don’t mind mixed dorms but it becomes an issue of security & safety when someone can check in in the middle of the night for only a couple hours to be creepy to solo female travellers in their sleep. Nothing else was stolen but a couple locals have told stories to me since they have heard of stealing in this hostel. The other guests (& there were very few) seemed to be only a couple older men who might’ve been seeking refuge from the street. I made staff aware of the fact that my bra was missing & asked them to contact me if it was found & have heard nothing. The dust & stained sheets & weird smells could all have been overlooked for the price but the lack of sense of security & creepy vibe as a late 20s solo, female traveller makes it not worth it. Seek accommodation elsewhere.

    I wouldn’t never come back to this hostel. The brown hair receptionist was rude, unhelpful and discourteous. She got us waiting 15 minutes for check in while we were soaked and freezing, never look at our face when she checked us in, she picked up the phone in the middle of the check-in, was annoyed when we asked her questions and refused to take coins just because the bank charge them for taking them? When I looked at her confused because of the treatment given she told me if I was ok in a intimidating way, please someone show this woman some manners!! The rooms were disgusting, cover in leaks and humidity. We paid 80€ for a double room, which is not cheap for the condition of the room. We were waking up multiple times because of the massive noises of other doors banging, please put some stoppers on them. Also they charge 3€ per towel and our pillow case was dirty. My friends stayed in a 9 people shared room and one person sneaked in, leaving one of them with no bed, so there’s no security at all!

    this is a rustic stay, with minimal "extras". the beds are comfortable and the showers were hot with good pressure. I'd probably only stay a night or two because security was non existent and our roommate mentioned having his earbuds stolen and the door to the outdoors was open when he got back to the room. we drove and had our valuables with us so it wasn't a big deal for a night or two. the staff were always available and helpful during check in.

    A lovely location and a 24 hour check in was was available. The hostel lacked certain necessities such as an oven and was very limited in bathroom facilities. I also had food that was stolen from the fridge.
