I feel like there’s a lot of potential here!! Its an absolutely stunning hostel, right in the middle of Rome really, and only 15 min walk from termini station. The decor is beautiful and the room (I was in a 6 bed dorm, room 307) was stunning with high ceilings and beautiful long windows that overlooked the courtyard and let in lots of natural light. The bunk beds were also relatively spacious and the bathroom was also pretty clean. It’s also across the street from a supermarket. However, I felt like it was lacking small details that would really take it to the next level. I understand Rome is not the cheapest city to visit and accom can be expensive. Jo and Joe was probably the most expensive hostel I ever stayed in so I was expecting at least some more amenities that I found available in other hostel chains that were at a similar price point (hairdryer without a deposit needed, soap and shampoo refilled regularly, shower drain cleaned so it didn’t overflow and pool at my feet while I was showering, bed fully made when I checked in, the ability to change the ac to more than 24 degrees). They mentioned it was to save electricity but I stayed in a hostel in Milan that allowed us to change the ac so I don’t understand. In terms of the bed… I understand the black rubber mattress cover helps protect against stains and bed bugs but it was really quite horrible to sleep with. It’s NOISY, the sheet slips and slides and gets loose during the night, it traps night sweat (and because you can’t lower the ac I can only imagine how bad it would get in summer), and I woke up every few hours because it wasn’t that comfortable. The pillows were okay though, and the duvet was nice. Overall, it’s a gorgeous decor but as a solo traveller I would prefer function over form - just my preference

Só fiquei surpresa porque a cozinha não conta com fogão, só com microondas e geladeira! Estranho pra um hostel, mas faz sentido, porque lá eles disponibilizam também refeições no restaurante, então deve ser pra incentivar que as pessoas consumam lá. A cama também não é das mais confortáveis, colchões com aquele material de colchonete de academia (mas pelo menos deve prevenir os bedbugs) e a cama não vinha 'feita', você tinha que colocar a colcha de cama. Resumindo, não consegui fazer isso direito, porque minha cama era na parte de cima.

Vibe Analysis
The courtyard with its fountain is the main event at JO&JOE Roma: a good-looking open space for drinks, music, board-game nights, and a polished Rome hostel mood. The whole place leans boutique-chain rather than scrappy backpacker den, with strong design, bright common areas, a bar/restaurant setup, and a second-floor lounge with games, couches, and workspace. The location does serious work here. Termini, the metro, Trevi, the Colosseum, shops, buses, and a supermarket across the street are all practical from this base, so it suits short Rome runs where walking radius matters. Dorm layouts can be clever too: lower bunks may have privacy screens, bathrooms are often split into separate toilet, shower, and sink zones, and laundry is available. The social side is uneven. Even with music, a bar, events, and a busy courtyard, the hostel can feel more like a stylish hotel-hostel hybrid than a natural friend-making machine. It is better for a central, design-forward stay with optional buzz than for a classic kitchen-table backpacker scene. Sleep is the tradeoff. The plastic or leather-style mattress covers and metal bunks can be loud, hot, hard, and slippery, with sheets that may not stay put. Air conditioning, cleaning, breakfast, luggage storage, and staff warmth can also be inconsistent, so this is a sharper pick for location and looks than for frictionless comfort.

- Beds are a real risk: squeaky frames, hard or plastic-covered mattresses, and loose sheets can make sleep rough.
- Upper bunks may lack curtains, and lower bunks seem to be the better privacy bet.
- Expect paid extras for things like luggage storage, towels, locks, laundry, or late checkout.
- The kitchen setup is very limited, mostly microwave/fridge/kettle territory, and outside food may be restricted in the courtyard.
- Courtyard events, street noise, late arrivals, and weak soundproofing can make rooms loud.
- Air conditioning may be centrally limited or inconsistent, especially at night.
- Bathroom cleaning, drains, toiletries, and room upkeep can be hit-or-miss.
