I realized after leaving the hostel that I have signs of what seems to be bedbugs. Not many but still… Plus it’d be nice to have more common/social activities organized by the hostel (e.g. dinners)

This hostel needs some serious help. It wasnt so bad during the day. The building itself is very nice. But the evening/night staff need a refresher in how to behave at work. Every night the night staff were drinking and getting high in the patio area long past 1 am (which is WAY too late of a silence curfew anyay). I understand if guests want to stay up late since they are actually paying for it, but the night guys always had a huge group of very loud friends over to party . These are people who werent even staying at the hostel keeping awake people who were paying for a place to sleep. I even asked one staff memeber around 2 am on my last night if he could enforce the silence rule. He didnt. The other thing, BED BUGS. . My boyfriend and I are covered in textbook bed bug bites. The bites are in a perfectly straight line. Mosquitos dont do that (even though there were a lot of those too!) Dont stay here. Just dont

Vibe Analysis
Viajero Montevideo Hostel has the bones people want from a city hostel: a big historic building in Ciudad Vieja, a pretty main space, rooftop/common areas, coworking corners, and a location that makes the old town, port, museums, and central sights easy to reach. When it works, it feels like a practical Montevideo base with enough shared space to hang around between city loops. The catch is consistency. The social setup is there on paper, but the atmosphere can be quiet, patchy, or weirdly loud rather than naturally communal. Some travelers found friendly staff and good common areas; others ran into cold service, missing activities, dead group chats, and loud music where quiet space should have been. Rooms vary a lot. Some are spacious or comfortable, but the rough edges recur: dirty carpets and linens, bathroom smells, weak maintenance, cold rooms, hot-water issues, loud street/common-area noise, and occasional reservation or payment mess. Best fit: someone who wants a central Old Town base and is fine treating the hostel as a useful shell, not a guaranteed Viajero party lab.
