Bed bug reports

Nice for a quick stop over in between places, facilities were pretty small but it had a very homey vibe to it, the staff are very nice and very happy to help out. My friend thinks she may have had bed bugs but I didn’t have any issues!

Vibe Analysis
Tarragona Hostel is a central, bare-bones base for Tarragona: close to the old town, Rambla, beach, station, shops, and a supermarket, with a small cafe or bar downstairs and a patio/courtyard that can be a decent place to sit, drink something, or talk. Staff can be warm and helpful, including with late arrival, local tips, luggage storage, and practical fixes. The courtyard is the clearest personality piece here: not luxury, not polished, but a usable little hangout zone that gives the place more life than the rooms do. There is also a kitchen and common space, though both can feel basic and unevenly kept. Breakfast exists, sometimes cheap or acceptable, but it can also feel improvised or weak. Rooms are simple and often old, with thin or noisy beds, little privacy, limited bedside setup, small lockers, and mixed comfort around airflow. Some rooms have air conditioning or ceiling fans, while others can be hot, stuffy, cold, or hard to control. Noise is a major part of the deal: street sound, doors, bathrooms, common areas, late arrivals, and other room activity can all cut into sleep. This is best treated as a cheap, central crashpad for a short stay if location matters more than comfort. It is a risky pick for light sleepers, privacy-sensitive travellers, families, and solo women outside a lively high-season backpacker crowd.
Signals to check
- Cleanliness is inconsistent, especially in bathrooms, showers, bedding, kitchen areas, and common spaces.
- Sleep can be rough because of street noise, loud doors, thin walls, creaky beds, late activity, and rooms near bathrooms or common areas.
- Several safety and comfort concerns appear around room allocation, mostly male dorms, intoxicated or aggressive behavior, and limited overnight staff presence.
- Expect an old building with no lift, narrow stairs, basic facilities, small lockers, and maintenance issues such as broken locks, shower holders, lights, doors, or card keys.
- Towels may cost extra, bed privacy is limited, and some rooms lack useful basics like individual lights, tables, chairs, outlets, or places to hang towels.
