Ratagan Youth Hostel
Vibe Analysis
Ratagan Youth Hostel sits right on the loch, with mountain views from the windows and a quiet, green setting that feels properly away from town. The private garden by the water has benches, a picnic table, flowers, and bird feeders, so the best part of the place is not hidden inside: you can actually sit with the view. The hostel works well for self-catering. The kitchen is spacious, well equipped, and kept tidy, with a comfortable dining area and a cosy lounge for board games, reading, or watching the hills shift outside. Breakfast may be available, and there may be practical extras like frozen meals at reception, which matters because shops and restaurants are not close. Rooms are generally clean, with warm bedding, sockets or USB points by beds in some dorms, and a simple youth-hostel feel rather than boutique polish. Staff tend to be friendly, welcoming, and useful for local questions. It is a strong base for Kintail walks, Ratagan Pass, Glenelg, and Skye day trips if you have transport.
