Vibe Analysis
Crescent Hotel is a very basic budget stop in Reading, with the main upside being location: it is close to the town centre, easy to find, and can work for a cheap short stay when price and access matter more than comfort. There are a few practical positives. Staff can be friendly and helpful when available, early check-in or room upgrades may happen, and parking may be available. Some rooms have clean sheets or towels, a kettle with tea and coffee, and a decent shower. The tradeoff is serious. The building can feel worn down, dirty, cold, noisy, and poorly maintained, with thin walls, small rooms, damaged fittings, mould, stained bedding, unreliable heating, and hot water problems. This is not a social hostel pick or a polished hotel; treat it as a bare-minimum crash pad only if the price and location are doing almost all the work.
Signals to check
- Cleanliness can be a major issue, including mould, stained bedding, dirty bathrooms, dust, and bad smells.
- Maintenance problems may include broken sinks, damaged showers, poor drainage, faulty heating, worn carpets, and limited sockets.
- Noise can be disruptive because of thin walls, door slamming, shouting, and activity from nearby rooms.
- Staff may not always be available on site.
- There is no kitchen for cooking.
- Rooms can be very small and basic.
