Le Mat Hostel
Bed bug reports

The hostel is in a perfect location and the self check in was very easy. Kitchen looked nice as well, and all for a very good price! Wasn't the most social - but is to be expected off peak. Only negative was I had quite a few bites after sleeping- not sure if it was mosquitoes or bed bugs. The lockers were great! I definitely reccomend staying here!

Me I ne m’y friend got bit with bed bugs. We had pimples everywhere on our bodies and the owner didn’t wanna do nothing about it. The personnel was nice but the owner is inhumane and only cares about making money regardless of client’s health. The hostel was good but pay attention to bed bugs, cause it’s gonna make your stay a nightmare.

Vibe Analysis
Le Mat Hostel sits in a beautiful old Ottoman-style building near Larnaca’s beach, old town, castle, restaurants, bars, and bus links. The place has more character than a standard bunk factory: high ceilings, vintage decor, art and repurposed pieces, a courtyard with greenery, and Tarot-card details on doors and beds. The setup is practical for a short city-and-sea stop. There is a shared kitchen, filtered water, communal space, self check-in, lockers, towels, WiFi, and bunks with lamps, outlets, and curtains. Lower bunks usually seem more private than upper bunks, which may only have partial curtains. The social side is uneven. At its best, the common areas, courtyard, music, and occasional hostel energy make it easy to meet others; at quieter times it can feel calm, remote-work friendly, or low on atmosphere. Staff presence is limited, especially later in the day, though help by message can be responsive. This is a characterful, central Larnaca base with real charm, but it is not polished. The building’s age is part of the appeal and part of the friction: insulation, bathrooms, AC control, and night noise can all affect the stay.
Signals to check
- Bathrooms can be small, hot, short on shelf space, and sometimes not as fresh as they should be.
- Air conditioning may be limited or controlled by the property, which can make summer rooms uncomfortable.
- Winter common areas can feel cold and draughty.
- Sound insulation is weak; corridor light, door noise, balcony smoke, mosque sound, alarms, and late arrivals may disturb sleep.
- Staff are not always on site, and contactless check-in or late-arrival communication may feel shaky.
- Security may feel loose if bedroom doors or the main entrance are left open.
