Confirmed Hostelworld
Enjoyed staying here as the staff and other guests were very friendly throughout our stay - good for solo travellers. The hostel was pretty clean and they had lots of activities either at/with the hostel or info for independent activities. Plenty of bathroom facilities for number of guests and lots of places to relax in outside of your room. Only really disappointing thing (which means I wouldn’t stay here again) is we woke up the second night covered in bed bug bites so heads up!!

Vibe Analysis
Beachside Backpackers runs more like a small sharehouse than a polished chain hostel: funky artwork, a book swap, a living-room-and-kitchen hub, and a close communal setup where it is easy to get pulled into the room instead of drifting around anonymously. The social side is the main event. There are game nights, pub quizzes, BBQs, yoga, arts and crafts, pool, darts, board games, Wii Sports, Netflix/Stan hangouts, and sometimes surfboards or local help like trips toward the koala hospital. Staff are a big part of the atmosphere, with a hands-on, inclusive style that suits solo travellers and anyone who wants a relaxed Port Macquarie crew fast. It is small, homey, and a bit scruffy around the edges. The beach, Coles, town centre, Greyhound stop, and coastal walks are all walkable, usually around 5 to 15 minutes depending where you are headed. The best fit is someone who wants a friendly, activity-heavy hostel with personality, not a silent sleep pod or sterile hotel setup.
Signals to check
- No aircon is a recurring downside, and rooms can get hot even with fans.
- Facilities can feel older, basic, or messy, especially the kitchen and bathrooms at weaker moments.
- Long-termers are part of the scene, which can feel either welcoming or cliquey depending on timing.
- Noise can carry in the small house layout, so this is not the best pick for early nights or light sleepers.
- Beds and lockers are basic; privacy curtains, bedside lights, outlets, and storage may be limited.
