Explain how it works
We compare every 5★ review's word count against the global distribution. Hostels where unusually many top-rated reviews are suspiciously short — way under the typical length — start to look like the staff (or a boost-my-listing service) is padding the score with throwaway praise.
The detector flags reviews that are both top-rated and below a length threshold, then estimates how many of them statistically shouldn't exist. For this hostel we scanned 10176 top-rated reviews and 0% were suspiciously short.
Length z-score: 17.89. A z-score measures how far this hostel's distribution of 5★ review lengths sits from the global average, in standard deviations. 0 = perfectly typical. 1–2 = slightly unusual but within normal noise. 3–5 = strongly anomalous. Anything 10+ means the pattern is so far from the global norm that it's effectively impossible to get there organically.
This is a heuristic, not a verdict — it surfaces hostels worth a second look, not proof of fraud. Read the actual reviews below and judge for yourself.

review score with fake/bought
This place is massively tuning its review score with fake/bought reviews. The facilities lack light and many doors require fixing to be properly locked for instance. So overall very basic place. Make sure to check the charged amount during check-in as the it was higher than stated by Hostelworld and seemed like a random calculation.

5-star hotel and we really appreciated the free breakfast
We loved our stay here, the private room felt like a 5-star hotel and we really appreciated the free breakfast every day. Ahmed, Mohamed, Ali, and Ibrahim each brought their own charms and were very accommodating, and were great on the drums! The excursion to Ouzoud was a lot of fun as well. The roof was by far my favorite spot, I spent every night up there socializing or stargazing. I will definitely return next time I’m in Marrakech. Hotel California vibes

Free breakfast and less than 80 dirhams per night are just the cherry on top. Overall 10/10
Amazing hostel with super helpful staff, great accommodations, a lot of character, awesome guests, and the right balance of energy and chill. Be sure to check out the excursions they offer as they are a great value and if you need any help with anything during your stay, just ask the staff and they'll be able to work it out. Definitely a younger crowd (as most hostels are) but not a party-obsessed vibe. Free breakfast and less than 80 dirhams per night are just the cherry on top. Overall 10/10.

in exchange for taking off the review
My experience in this place was pretty controversial. We have been recommended to go there by locals because of the atmosphere and the good food. We reserved and asked for a nice table, but as soon as we got there we were given a table behind the dj console. We were then isolated and could not see anything, nor being seen. Thus, we were asked to order after more than half an hour. Moreover, as we saw the table, we asked to be changed seat and were told that somebody would have called us as soon as other guests would have left. It didn’t happen. When we asked why, we have been answered that it was a table for four people and they couldn’t give it to the three of us. However, it was then assigned to a couple. The same happen for other tables. We started receiving our meals after more than 40 minutes and thought the worst passed. However, a band arrived for a music show and stationed right in front of our table not allowing us to move not to be served. We couldn’t enjoy the show, nor the belly dancers. When the food arrived, after the show, it was frozen. We reported it and instead of being taken car of we were reproached by the manager. The situation changed only after a friend of mine writing a bad review for the place. At that point we were assigned a new table, given new warm food, some treats and drinks. However, it was done in exchange for taking off the review. Not really for the client’s interest. Regardless of this, I must say that the place is really beautiful, and so are the shows. The food is also good as well as the treats we were given. Just pay attention and do not wear if you are assigned a bad table, location changes everything.

review they continue to deny any refund
In summary: Mold on the walls, hostel worker scams you by charging you extra, and they illegally charged my credit after I left. This will be a lengthy review- since I have never had such a horrible hostel. To start, on arrival there is an overly friendly worker who states the price of the hostel, which was higher than the price on hostel world claiming it is the price including taxes. He then gets me to pull up email, which states the extra taxes that are not included, but he still calculated the math wrong. After doing the math, I informed him I did not owe him 4 Dirham, but he in fact owed me 7, he still insisted I was wrong. I then pulled out my phone to do the math and he said ok and ended up just giving me 4 to end the discussion. But this was the least of the issues staying here. Initially getting shown to my room, the lights would not turn on in the room. I was shown to a 6 person dorm when I booked a 4 person dorm. When I voiced these concerns he just stated “don’t worry only 4 people will be in it”. Luckily I ran into two other individuals who were staying in the room who asked if I saw all the mold in the corner- which due to the light not working- I was unable to see. The two that I met pressed the hostel for a change in rooms to one without mold, or a refund. The overly nice, now seemingly shifty, hostel worker stated “this is not possible, there are no other hostels available in Marrakech”. After a quick search online- this was obviously false. It was only until we threatened to call the police that they finally agreed to move us hostels. After they moved us hostels all seemed to be well- until the next morning I got a email that my Hostelworld reservation was canceled and my credit card was charged for the nights stay. I messaged the hostel inquiring about this. They denied any extra charges on my credit card, and stated they only canceled the room to free it up to be booked again. I only had one night booked, and it was canceled the next morning- so that logic did not make sense. They canceled it to prevent me from leaving a negative review on their platform. After asking multiple times for a review they continue to deny any refund or change. I have stayed at MANY hostels over my years of travel, some less than sanitary, some unpleasant hostel workers, but NEVER any experience like this. Even though it is cheap and has high reviews on hostel world- please do no book here and save yourself a nightmare of changing hostels and getting scammed. If you have read this far please heart this comment to make it more relevant for others to see. Attached is the pictures of the mold.

asked to move upstairs , the food was 10/10
Favourite restaurant I visited in Marrakesh 100% would recommend - make sure you book in advance. We originally was seated downstairs however asked to move upstairs , the food was 10/10 aswell as the vibes! Later on upstairs turns more in to a club with a DJ etc… They also sell shisha. And you can smoke and vape inside too

asked to leave a 5★ review, which felt pushy. Please check review
Great location and good value, but no AC as advertised and the dorm fan didn’t work. No lockers for backpacks, only for small items. Breakfast was tasty but staff had to be woken up to prepare it. Beautiful building, though the welcome felt cold, there was a gas smell, and staff watched videos loudly. I was asked to leave a 5★ review, which felt pushy. Please check reviews in google maps..

Mitarbeiter pressured immer wieder ein gutes Review zu schreiben „do me a favor my boss thinks I don’t work enough“ Leider auch nicht wirklich sauber aber grundsätzlich noch ok. Sind coole Leute dagewesen, dass der Vibe morgens gut war.

Reviews are definitely inflated
Genuinely a terrible hostel. Super dirty bathrooms and rooms. It really felt unhygienic staying here. I’ve stayed at a lot of hostels… but this was by far the worse. Super super cold in the winter (no heaters anywhere, not in the rooms or main hall), no locks to room doors, doors don’t fully close, small lockers located outside. Showers are cold water only. Honestly quite disappointed and wouldn’t recommend this place to travellers. Reviews are definitely inflated in my opinion

told. Apparently the good rating
Positives: amazing location, a 5-minute walk away from the Jemaa El Fna place. Pretty cheap. Great atmosphere with the other travallers and the staff. However: to get in you have to ring the doorbell and hope staff is close enough to open. Rooms are dirty, beds are clean. Only 2 toilets for 20 people on the lower level. Showers are dirty and old. Some people got moved without being told. Apparently the good ratings are a result of people being told to rate the hostel in front of staff

reviews are fake
Maybe I had bad luck or the reviews are fake. It started with the hostel demanding ca 15 euros more than it was said on hostel world. Since it was 3am and I was really tired I didn't question it at that point. If it rains, some of the rooms will be under water (some roofs are just plastic tarps) and the hostel staff didn't care about it until some guests came back and noticed something. And I saw multiple times that they double booked a bed which sometimes ended in sleeping on the couch

reviews on hostelworld are fake
I would not recommend staying here. First of all, the staff was very kind so I can’t say anything about that, they explained everything very well and showed us around. However, the building was very old and outdated, it was not very clean. They tried to overcharge us for the rooms and our room was very cold as there was a space above the door that was just open. All the heat escaped so that was not very nice:( For the price you could better stay in another hostel. I think the reviews on hostelworld are fake as it’s only 10 star reviews or low ones.

asked us to include his name in my husband’s review
My husband and I went for our final dinner in Marrakech. We knew what we were getting ourselves into—tourist-priced food. But what I didn’t expect was HOW expensive it actually was. We ordered the 7-types salad, prawn appetizer, miso salmon main, and 3-flavor sorbet. All the dishes were mediocre. The salmon was overcooked. The salads were similar to those at typical Moroccan restaurants, but displayed nicely in a tiered ceramic. The sorbet flavors were mid. The rose flavor tasted like laundry cleaner. The mango was best, but still very tart. The bill came to about $99 USD. Granted, the presentation is beautiful and clean. The ambiance is energetic. The decor is immaculate. The service is attentive. But this kind of pricing is outrageous in my opinion. They really hustling tourists. The performance was energetic and made the $99 USD bill more worth it. I would give more stars had it not been for one of the managers who appeared out of nowhere in the middle and end of our dinner service to ask how the meal was and how we were doing. It startled me the first time. The last time, he randomly asked us to include his name in my husband’s review of our experience. The servers were excellent, however the managers were questionable? I don’t know what their job is other than to smile and dress formal in a suit.

asked me to open the review email in front of them and give 5 star
Great location and good value for money, but there was no air conditioning as advertised on Hostelworld. The hostel is open-air, which might explain it, but our room fan didn’t work either. (I was in the 8 dorms mixt) We felt safe overall, although there are no lockers for backpacks—only for small valuables or documents. Breakfast was nice and filling, with beghrir, msemen, eggs, and honey. But you will need to wake the staff up so they start to prepare the breakfast when someone wakes up. The building itself is beautiful, but the atmosphere was lacking: the welcome wasn’t particularly warm, and there was little to no introduction to the hostel. The dorm was fine, but there was a constant smell of gas, and staff often watched videos loudly on their phones, which didn’t feel very professional. Overall, I don’t really understand all the 5-star reviews—someone even asked me directly to leave one. I’m also puzzled about how this hostel has so many positive reviews compared to others. They sometimes leave the front door open for no clear reason, even though guests have to ring to get in (as in many Marrakech hostels). I wasn’t entirely comfortable with the fact that the door stayed open. Another point: reviews on Hostelworld don’t allow long comments, so it’s hard to share all of this. Staff even asked me to open the review email in front of them and give 5 stars, which I refused. That only confirmed my decision not to rate 5 stars

reviews on Hostelworld are fake
STAY AWAY. DIRTY, SCAMMY AND DISGUSTING. I fully believe the reviews on Hostelworld are fake. Prequel: I am a seasoned traveller, I have been to many hostels, I am in fact writing from another hostel in marrakesh cause I ESCAPED this place one night early because of the disgust. PRO: the location is nice. CONS: EVERYTHING. This was the most disgusting place I have ever seen in my entire life. I added pictures but they don't transmit the idea enough. -THE LAUNRY ROOM AND HOW THEY WAS THEIR SHEETS IS THE MOST UNHYGENIC AND UNCLEAN PRACTICE I HAVE EVER SEEN -Towels and sheets are disgusting, full of orange, brown spots they are old and smell humid. -Pillows and covers smelled unwashed and dirty as well as having spots as well. -The toilet is undescribebly bad, you can see there is bearly space to sit on the toilet. I am 155 and I had to put my knees to the side to sit. (The doors are made of a think sheet of plastic). -The sink had beard hairs on it and they stayed there for approximately 3 days before they were cleaned (mind you it is a shared toilet). -Everything is broken, tiles, glass, paintings, walls, windows, locks. Everything has a hole or a missing piece to the point that is looks horrible. -Staff is untrained and weird. They will come up to you with weird comments, and they ask for extra money even when you have paid the city taxes already -Staff will play loud music all day and till late at night randomly, shout and sleep on sofas. You will find the guy that checked you in sleeping the the hall on a sofa and the "cleaning lady" in pigamas in the reception. -Everything is covered in carpets, in a place that does not clean, you can imagine the problem. -every sofa is covered in staines and wholes, the pillows smell bad. -We paid 140€ for a room for 3 nights (private 2 people room) this was way to expensive considering the state of the place. -Its not just that the facilities are old, most of them are so broken and dirty that they are almost unusable. -They lied about multiple amenities, no free city tour, no free city map, no adaptors, no TV or DVD, no bar, no coffee facilities, no kitchen, no fridge, no microwave, no pool, no security, no safety deposit, no air conditioning, no hairdryer (all stuff they claim is available) -They say you have to go to terrace to smoke but there is a big group of guys and girls always smoking in the entrance of the building. -Other guests are not very respectful. Whilst I was there one of my friends (in a shared room) told us how many people just shouted and turn on the light in the room in the middle of the night. Forget any memory of health and safety here. Forget any memory of tranquill sleep and hygiene. Please don't book here, spend 10 euros more but don't stay here.

Vibe Analysis
Hostel Riad Marrakech Rouge has the bones of a central Marrakech social riad: Medina location, rooftop/terrace energy, breakfast, and a crowd that can be easy to meet. A few stays still land on the fun side, especially for solo travelers who just want a cheap, busy place in the middle of things. The warning label is loud. The recent pattern is dominated by dirty bathrooms and sheets, broken or cold showers, hard/tiny beds, no A/C or poor ventilation, late noise, and repeated payment disputes. Several people describe being asked for more money at check-in, missing change, or extra charges after leaving. This is not a comfort pick. It may work for one cheap night if you arrive with exact cash, low sleep expectations, and strong tolerance for grime. If safety, cleanliness, or straightforward pricing matter, choose somewhere else.
Signals to check
- Repeated overcharging and payment disputes are reported.
- Rooms and bathrooms are often described as dirty, moldy, or badly maintained.
- It can be very hot, with no working A/C and late noise.
- A guest reported being locked in during a payment dispute.
