The hostel was very nice and all the staff was so kind. However I'm not sure if I got bedbugs or fleas, but definitely one of the two. Haha, I knew this would happen sooner or later traveling in hostels, but it was here that it happened !!

Worst experience in a hostel ever. My room was full of bed bugs who infected all my bag and clothes, and costs me a lot of money and time to get rid of them. They don't clean at all. The staff isn't helpfull at all. They charge a lot of money to save your luggage. I lost a t-shirt and a blocknote, so I wrote them an email asking if they had found them and they didn't answer back.

The beginning of the trip was okay. It is a very clean hostel with great Wi-Fi. However, on my last day staying in the hostel before checkout, I did see a bedbug crawling on the mattress ( yes you can see them only if they have fed or grown to adult size) so I suggest you check your belongings before you leave the hostel and alert the hostel workers. Also, before you even go on the bed, check the mattress.

One word: bedbugs. We have been travelling for a month now, but the first place we had an encounter with them was in The Yellow Hostel. The rest of the hostel was nice enough, but we don't recommend you stay here, unless you fancy washing all your belongings on 60 degrees for an hour... We are covered in itchy bites. They did give us a refund, but we had to write an email and call them before we received it. Also, the refund doesn't cover the cost of getting rid of this infestation. edit: The hostel was nice, and it isn't the Yellow Hostels fault (as they pointed out us in an email). They also told us they immediately started disinfecting the room. Thats why we changed this review from 1 to 3 stars. If we hadn't come in contact with our little friends, we would have given this hostel 4 stars.

Great location, helpful staff, clean and modern facilities. Edit: I did discover I was trailing bedbugs home when I was en route back to Canada, and the only place I had stayed sans my companions (none of whom had bed bugs) was this hostel. I can't confirm that's where I got them from, but just be wary and check your mattress/bedding. I did email the hostel once I discovered the infestation in my luggage, but did not receive a response. Edit again: Very good to hear from staff that bedbug checks are done daily! I am amending my review to draw attention to them having taken the time to respond, kudos to them. :)

If you like bed bugs and drunk roommates falling out of their beds all night with tiny bathrooms, bad WiFi, no paper towels, and the management telling you that no in fact you have mosquito bites.... then this is the place for you. 50 euro fee for bringing in outside food or beer 🍺 and when I arrived there was a whole stash of pizza in the tiny safes that do not even fit a computer. Made some wonderful friends though. 👫 👭

Got bed bugs from here, the bathroom had a cockroach in the sink and smelt strongly of mould

Vibe Analysis

YellowSquare Rome is built for people who want Rome with a social switch left on. It is near Termini, has a bar that keeps people around, events, free pasta, bar discounts, and enough traveler traffic that meeting people is easy. It is more nightlife base than quiet Roman monastery. The location is practical for trains and local areas, but it is still a walk to many main sights. Beds can be comfortable and the A/C worked well in at least one summer stay, while staff get some helpful shout-outs, including city and food advice. For a solo traveler who wants a big, busy hostel with a bar ecosystem, it has a clear lane. The tradeoff is that the hostel is expensive for how rough parts of it can feel. Bathrooms and showers come up repeatedly as dirty, cramped, or awkward; some rooms are noisy because of metal bunks and party traffic; and there are enough security complaints that valuables need real paranoia, not decorative paranoia.
