Why this surfaced
Repeated, deduplicated traveler-review reports matched these incident categories:
One report can match more than one category. Counts describe review reports, not independently verified incidents.
These are reports in traveler reviews, not independently verified incidents. Duplicate review text and strong repeat-reviewer identities count once.
Category matches are automated. Relevant passages are exact review quotes selected from concrete incident wording, not hidden model rationales. If none appears, treat the match as suspect and check the full review.

Full reviewThey checked someone else into my bed on the second day of my stay. I came back and found a stranger’s belongings on my bed, and my things had been moved to the lost and found area. After that, I didn’t feel safe leaving my belongings there, especially since it seems like anyone can walk into the hostel. I also contacted the management afterwards to ask about this situation and a possible refund, but unfortunately I did not receive any response. The location is quite far from Surfers Paradise.

One night there was a fight and a knife was picked up from the kitchen.

Full reviewAll bedding was stained for both guests when we arrived. Belongings weren't secure at all, you get one pull out (unlocked) drawer under bunk and an open area to 'store' luggage. This area is under surveilance with cameras but the whole building is open to public. Most showers didn't work. Area was quite rough. One night there was a fight and a knife was picked up from the kitchen. Other guests have no consideration for others trying to sleep, very noisy. People openly having sex in dorm.

there was no security so random people had access to the big dorm room and no security for your bags

Full reviewIf you're a solo female traveller - I would probably avoid this place. The massive dorm room is mainly occupied by men and I just generally felt unsafe, there was no security so random people had access to the big dorm room and no security for your bags. Cleanliness was great but with the uneasy feeling, I had to leave a day early. I asked the desk clerk to move beds but wasn't able to, so I left.

Full reviewDuring my stay, I experienced a deeply unsettling incident that raised serious concerns about the safety and management of this hostel. In the middle of the night, I was abruptly awakened by a dramatic police intervention. Officers were arresting an individual directly beneath my bunk, with apparent references to a knife-related incident. The suspect appeared to be under the influence. What was most alarming was the complete absence of staff response, no staff members checked on the guest

The security is not great, you’re not given a key and anyone can practically walk in, luggage not kept secure too.

Full reviewThe facilities here are great, better than any hostel I’ve stayed in. But that’s all there is to it. The location is far away from surfers paradise and at least a 20-30 minute walk from a good beach. The area around the hostel is quite sketchy and at times i felt uneasy walking around as a solo female and when with all my luggage. The security is not great, you’re not given a key and anyone can practically walk in, luggage not kept secure too. Socially, I found it very cliquey and hard to mingle

Full reviewHostel was very clean, the common area was really nice and getting dinner included was great. However, this hostel lacks security as staff do not provide you with a key to the main building nor to the dorm which has no door to access, anyone could walk in. There is also a rule that there is no speaking in the dorm, however I did not sleep well due to the lads around me talking loudly at 3am. Rules are not enforced. Paid just over $80 for a night which I thought was very overpriced for what it is
