If I could give negative stars, I would. Absolute worst hostel I've ever stayed at, disappointing considering it's so highly recommended - obviously fake reviews written by the owner and staff (a staff member even told me this). at least 6 other people during my stay had similar experiences. After 3 nights here, I had 100+ bed bug bites, a number of which became infected to the point where I had to get antibiotics after I left, had sepsis starting, had a fever, and it became so painful on my leg it hurt to walk. When I confronted the owner about getting my money back for the desert tour because of my medical concerns and because no transportation could be secured out of the desert so I felt unsafe as a woman travelling alone, he refused. I had waited all day for him to talk about it until he woke up at 5pm. He had refused to talk about it when I tried to the day before. He also confronted me once he woke up, asking if there was a problem and when I said there was, his reply was "Why are you sitting here all day talking bad about the hostel?" - He was asleep all day, but his workers were constantly hovering around us as we discussed what to do about the bed bug situation (as a number of us woke up that morning with bites) and the desert trip. This is not a safe or comfortable environment for a hostel if the workers are constantly listening in on conversations and confronting guests about their private conversations. On top of this, I became friends in my time there with a girl involved with one of the hostel workers and on at least two occasions, as we left the hostel, we could see him behind us following. When he knew he had been seen, he then walked quickly past us. Additionally, he got mad at her for leaving the hostel with me and she told me she didn't feel safe there after I left. Some of the workers also seemed afraid of Noor and approached me and asked me to tell Noor that he had said something different than I had said he said, while Noor watched, so he would not get in trouble. Noor also could be incredibly rude to hostel guests who did not seem to want to give their money to him. After the discussion with Noor in his office about the desert trip, our group was never left alone together in the common room, so I was not able to convey to them what was said without the staff listening in. This continued even up until the point he put me in a taxi. This was a very suffocating and hostile environment. Especially as a woman travelling alone in Morocco, I wanted my hostel to be a refuge from the reality of Moroccan culture I had to face daily, but this was not the case and it was more stressful to be there than it was to be walking through the medina. This is the tip of the iceberg, there was a leaky sink which created a slippery pool on the floor which I slipped on, cockroaches, an outlet which gave electrical shocks, and no locks on the outside door, room doors, and no lockers. I think, even above the health problems incurred here, that most importantly this hostel does not create a safe or healthy environment for anyone travelling here, alone or in a group. Avoid at all costs.

Vibe Analysis

Turtles hang around the rooftop, which gives the common area a memorable feel. The rooftop is a major draw here: it has wide city views and works well as a relaxed place to spend time. The hostel has a warm, lively atmosphere, with staff who are friendly, helpful, and quick to sort things out. Breakfast is large and substantial, and tea and coffee may be available through the day. The interior has a lot of character rather than a generic hostel look. The location is handy near the medina entrance, so it works well as a base for walking around Fes. Some rooms are clean and comfortable, while a few are small or can pick up noise from the street or shared areas.
