It would have been a good experience, if not for the fact that our room was infested with bed bugs. My friends and I are covered in bed bug bites, which is completely unacceptable. I'm not convinced our room was the only one with this problem.

**EDITED AS RIGHT OF REPLY** No hot water in sink, 5 nights & no cleaning or toilet bin emptied. Lounge somewhat grim & grubby. Outside light broken, a bleak experience but hey 'any port in a storm' & only used for sleeping. Good location. I didn't try to leave without paying, I did pay on departure. This was a kind review, considering I left covered with bed bug bites, which many guests comment on. I had to share room with a pleasant, but sad alcoholic, homeless woman, very sad. Didn't meet staff as I was out from 7 to 8 every day. And whole place in need of cheering up.

BED BUGS!!! I stayed at the Seadragon hostel for only one night in August, and the next evening I was covered in bed bug bites. They were swollen and painful and took weeks to go down. The reaction was bad as it is my first time experiencing bed bug bites. I contacted the hostel straight away to let them know, and an employee named John said he saw no bugs, but confirmed he found signs of an infestation. When I asked for proof from the fumigators of their visit, they ignored my calls and emails.

Seadragon Backpackers is a small, basic Brighton crash pad close to the seafront, with the beach just down the road and the centre usually within an easy walk. It works best as a cheap, low-fuss place to sleep between Brighton plans: small dorms, comfortable beds, simple bathrooms, and a self check-in setup built around codes rather than a full-time front desk. The kitchen is a real advantage for budget trips, with space to cook, free tea and coffee, and basic breakfast supplies like bread, milk, butter, jam, cereal, and juice at times. The lounge is small, but there are practical little touches around the place: books, charging cables, recommendations for things to do, towels, toiletries, and in at least one female dorm, hair dryers and straighteners. The mood is more cosy and quiet than high-social. It can feel homely when the right mix is in, and staff such as John or Theo can be friendly, helpful, and quick to sort problems by message or in person. It can also feel impersonal or under-managed when reception hours are short, especially out of season or later in the day. This is not a polished hostel. Cleanliness ranges from very clean to grubby, showers can have weak pressure or unreliable hot water, and the basement kitchen can feel dark, damp, or poorly ventilated. There are serious bed bug complaints from 2025 and 2026, so this is one to book only if the low price and location outweigh the risk profile.
