    En el hostal hay una comunidad de personas no huéspedes que tienen una imagen y dinámicas sociales muy incomodas. Además de fumar marihuana en áreas comunes , hay un ambiente de acoso visual hacia las mujeres que hace del hostal un espacio para no sentirse seguro El hostal se ve viejo. La ropa de cama estaba sucia y los baños estaban asquerosos (papeles con heces en el piso. Los voluntarios parece que están ahí de mala gana porque a duras penas contestan preguntas básicas. Es una pena.

    Location is good. Beds are uncomfortable & there was a dog barking all hours of the night that kept me up. The doors of each room don’t lock & are left wide open all day and night. There are lockers but felt more unsafe for myself than my things. Hostel is a little rustic - cold showers, bad wifi and not much common seating. Bar is cheap and social vibe is ok. I ended up checking out early. I did share concerns with staff but was brushed off.
    • He went on an uncalled for rant against a volunteer working the bar and then disappeared with equipment, leaving the bar unmanned, guests unable to pay for drinks and grinding the karaoke night to halt.

    I LOVED this place BUT so much is being undone by the person that guides the tours. He went on an uncalled for rant against a volunteer working the bar and then disappeared with equipment, leaving the bar unmanned, guests unable to pay for drinks and grinding the karaoke night to halt. If not for the drama, Ticuchi is amazing - the volunteers and cleaning crew make for a great vibe.

    We love open bars, but not when it comes to our hostel… we got the dorm just in front of the bar so it was noisy.     Great location but a lack of security, anyone can walk in and no locks on room doors. The staff didn’t seem bothered to help and wanted to act more like guests or sleep. It was overpriced but this was because of dia de los muertos so might be ok otherwise. Lack of hot water and general state of cleanliness was quite poor.

    I do not recommend for female solo travelers!! The doors of the dorms do NOT close and are constantly opened, a drunk man confused our dorm at night and tried to get in my bed. The lockers of the dorm were all full. The beds and showers are quite dirty, and it is not worth it the price! I recommend the place to meet people though, and do activities.

    *BEWARE* We went out one day and upon our return, I found that a large sum of cash and jewellery had been stolen from my locker. It was confirmed by the hostel manager later on, that their cleaner broke into my locker and stole over $500 worth of cash and sentimental jewellery. Ticuchi are not taking any responsibility for this and have barely even offered an apology. UPDATE The manager (Pablo) agreed to reimburse me for the stolen items but has since gone silent and is now ignoring all messages and emails. Avoid this place at all costs - they are corrupt from the top down.

    The staff is friendly and they offer good tours. The bathrooms are okay, but they only have cold water. My bed had the whole time no curtain, even though they said, they will fix it. It depends about the dorm you are staying in. In my dorm it was super hot all the time. They need to work about the safety. Currently they had some problems with thefts from inside the lockers.

    Better don‘t! 8 lockers for 10 beds, 2 of them broken and it felt intended! They promised to repair at least one but didn’t. Of course we locked our backpacks themselves, but that‘s just not as safe, so a lot got stolen. Might have been the staff changing the sheets who watched me not beeing able to lock my luggage properly. Also: dirtiest dorm in 1 month of Mexico, beds were narrow, rooms were quite loud, just cold water, kitchen had no forks and I‘m not sure about the „drinking water“.

    This place has a lot of potential, location is amazing. The place is being recently assembled. You can see it because of the way how the beds are. A bit too basic but funtional( not for long legs). Not all showers have Hot shower. If you are a typical mexican you can get annoyed by 3 facts. - its full crowded by junkies (which Im not bothered) - they get super noisy and drunk - its a cheap place. Now my experience was bad only for 2 reasons: I parked my car and they stole my tire. I asked prevoiusly if it was safe. They said yes. But it was not like that. Its OK not their fault. But maybe cameras outside can be helpful. Now the 2d. Thing is: a personal item was taken directly from my bag. I dont know if the staff took it or if the backpackers did it , but they could have help me better (I guess) . There is a BIG advertisement which says " we are not responsable for things that might get stolen" so it is TRUE they are really not responsable for this. I contacted the owner he seems nice and I still waiting at least for a nice "sorry I asked we couldnt find it" but we Will see what happens. There is A DOG that barks every single night next to the rooms. If you dont like that Kind of noise. This is not your place. Mojitos are really nice well done if the good bartender is making it. I know it looks like they are improving but they need as well better recepcionists at the desk. Maybe locals, since the international receptions looks all the time hangover and in a "mood" One potential guest asked -"how much is the room?" And the recepcionist replied: "whats your nationality?" Lol that Kind of responses just try it better , to be well trained. The guest replied : -is this based on your nationality?" If the workers are tired or hangover is not good for us. Because we want service and nice People around us. I'll probably be back there but without bringing my personal items, not even clothes, Just for party and sleeping. They were playing beer ping pong (with water) Kind of funny, also karaoke. They served dinner at night, pool is cool but for sure People smoking weed which is fine for me. I asked as well the oxxo cashier and she said they have being robbed several times, be careful in general the City is not being safe. The coolest guy was the night shift receptionist! Thanks !

    Despite our room being double booked, the manager found us another room for our first night, offering a discount for the remainder of our stay, which we were happy with. *BEWARE* We went out one day and upon our return, I found that a large sum of cash and jewellery had been stolen from my boyfriend’s padlocked locker. You will need to be aware that things go “missing” in this hostel, and despite the apparent efforts from the Hostel manager, they are unable to deal with these issues.

    The kitchen and common aera is kind of nice, staff is cool but appart from that I was very disappointed : No hot shower Dorms completely open all the time no privacy, no real quiet space to chill Very very loud when close to the bar, but the music stops at 11 fortunately MONEY STEALING IN THE DORMS+++, be careful

    SCAM! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Stayed here for 2 nights and had no hot running water, one day there wasn't even cold running water. Internet is only in reception and is slow, there was hair on our mattresses, we didn't receive towels at all, the lockers are made of cheap plywood and are falling apart, lockers in reception were always full. The place didn't feel safe at all. The pool is dirty and water looks like a soup. Since they employ random travellers as staff the reception and bar are run very unprofessionally with bar staff getting drunk and reception staff not knowing anything about the surroundings. I also have to mention that they make you pay in cash so that you can't get your money back.

Vibe Analysis

Ticuchi Hostal Oaxaca leans hard into the social side: pool, bar, outdoor kitchen, daily activities, and tours that keep the place moving. The location is central and easy for walking to the zocalo and other sights, and the pool is a real draw in Oaxaca heat. A lot of people come back for the friendly staff and volunteers, the food tour, salsa nights, karaoke, and the easygoing, meet-people atmosphere. The best parts are the common spaces and the things going on around them. The tradeoff is that it is not a quiet hideout. Cleanliness, hot water, and room privacy are the weak spots, and the experience depends a lot on which room you land in.
